Free Pattern Friday – Saving it for a Rainy Day!

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Back in July, I shared a Harry Potter inspired pattern each week. Today’s pattern was on my mind, but never quite made it to full pattern status!

For years now, I’ve had multiple people asking for a pattern for Hagrid’s Umbrella to supplement the Project of Doom. Quite a few people have made their own versions for their own Bookcase quilts, but we’ve never had a pattern submitted for sharing.

Sewhooked Suggestion Box (for non-fandom pattern suggestions)

Fandom in Stitches Pattern Suggestions

Since it kept coming up, I designed one for you! Do I want to make another Harry Potter quilt now? Yeah, I kinda do. Do I have time? Absolutely not!

I present Hagrid’s Flowery Pink Umbrella, 10″ x 25″ paper pieced, designed by me, tested by Loretta Sitkiewicz Nardi & Jo Minvielle.

This is my daughter’s umbrella. I borrowed it for a little photo shot and then asked my fellow designers & pattern testers which photo they liked best. This one won by a long shot.

Notice my Arthur Weasley stitch in the background. Pattern available on the Harry Potter Archive on Fandom in Stitches under Quotes. 😛

This gives you an idea as to how this pattern can be used. I hope you enjoy it!

Free Pattern Friday – New HP Alphabet!

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

In honor of twenty years of Harry Potter and I shared Harry Potter-inspired patterns all month long.

Today is final July pattern and I do hope you enjoyed this magical month as much as I did!

All of my (always free!) Harry Potter patterns in one place.

Harry Potter Title Font Alphabet Quilt

Many years ago, I shared this Harry Potter-inspired alphabet. I’ve seen many, many fandom-themed quilts, quilt backs, mini-quilts, and other fun projects using these blocks. These are super easy to recognize because they are inspired by the title fonts from the U.S. book printings, later used in the Harry Potter movies.

Today is the “big one” I promised earlier this week on Talk to Me Tuesday. I’m sharing another book-inspired alphabet, this time from the fonts used for each chapter in the books printed in the U.S.

Included in the document are 26 uppercase letters to paper piece. Each block is 5″ finished but can be enlarged as you desire. Unlike my original set, all the patterns are in one file, complete with Table of Contents!

Now let’s get wordy!

Free Pattern Friday – House Unity

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

In honor of twenty years of Harry Potter and my ongoing love of all things Harry, I’m celebrating with Harry Potter-inspired fandom patterns through July!

All of my (always free!) Harry Potter patterns in one place.

Back in April, I was tagged on my personal Facebook to share 7 quilt photos for 7 days by my friend Shelley. I don’t usually participate in chain-letter type projects, but I couldn’t resist this one!

This is one of the projects I shared. It’s not something I’ve talked about much, and it gives me warm fuzzies to get to do so now. 🙂

House Unity Banner made for JKR

Made in 2007, this is far from the best quilt photo I’ve ever taken. I call this little guy House Unity.

What’s important is not the quilt itself, but who I made it for.

At the time that I created this little quilted banner, I was a moderator and contributor at The Leaky Cauldron, under the awesome crafty leadership of Josée Leblanc. She organized a gift-giving effort between we crafty types as a thank you to the one and only J.K. Rowling.

Harry Potter has touched and changed my life in many ways. My kids grew up with Harry and Fandom has given me some of the best friends I've ever had. There aren't enough ways to say than you to #jkrowling for the gift #harrypotter has been in my life. #ha

Not only did Jo receive our gifts, but she sent us each personal thank you notes. According to her letter to me back in 2008, this wee piece of my art would go on to hang on her office wall. In case you’re curious, the letter is framed and hangs in my living room. It’s one of my prized fandom possessions!

I’m asked fairly regularly if I ever wonder if Jo Rowling is aware of my work and the answer is that I know that she was, at least for a moment.

Until now, I’ve never shared a pattern to make this mini quilt/banner. It’s been ten years, and well, I feel like it’s time.

I don’t have the original measurements from when I created this project, and I tweaked the colors a bit so your banner will be a tiny bit different from the one I made for Jo all those years ago.

As you might expect, this mini quilt/banner uses Crest patterns designed by yours truly. You can find links to those, as well as everything else you need to know to make your own House Unity banner, in the pattern document.

Free Pattern Friday – Stop Voldemort

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

In honor of twenty years of Harry Potter and my ongoing love of all things Harry, I’m celebrating with Harry Potter-inspired fandom patterns through July!

All of my (always free!) Harry Potter patterns in one place.

I’m almost positive I haven’t shared a new HP-inspired pattern since the reboot of The Project of Doom on Fandom in Stitches in 2015. Even so, I have continued to doodle and think about the series because there will never be any stopping that!

stop voldemort original.png

STOP Voldemort Sign (formerly located outside a high school in CA, photographer unknown)

Today’s pattern is a little bit different than my usual fandom-fare as it is based on an image seen in our very own muggle world (above). If you’re part of the Harry Potter fandom, you may remember this image going viral some years ago. While I don’t condone the vandalism, I do appreciate the sentiment and offer it here in fabric and with the possibility to create a version of your very own without committing a misdemeanor crime. 😉

STOP Voldemort is 10″ (10 1/2″ unfinished) and is entirely paper pieced. I highly recommend using an Add-A-Quarter or Add-An-Eighth ruler for accuracy. You can find more useful paper piecing links here.
