Free Pattern Friday – All About Winter!

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday! It’s been awhile, my friends!

Holly Jolly Christmas

Now through the month of December 2018, all of my for sale Winter and Christmas themed paper pieced patterns are on sale in my Etsy shop! Please note this is ETSY only and not available on Craftsy.

I thought this would be a great time to revisit my FREE winter and Christmas themed patterns, too. My freebies can be mixed and matched freely with the paid pattern sets.

This is a round of up patterns I’ve shared over the years, all paper pieced, all free plus one brand new pattern to share with all of my Sewhooked friends!

If you enjoy my free patterns, I encourage you to purchase a pattern from my Etsy or Craftsy shop. Please do the same for any maker you enjoy who shares free content. It’s how we are able to keep sharing. ♥

Check out the menu on sewhooked.com for ALL of my free patterns!

Surprise! New pattern – Signs Signs Signs

Surprise!

Guess who has been working on a new pattern in between all the other craziness?!

You guessed it!

Some time ago, Robin B. made an amazing suggestion that I have had in the back of my mind ever since – a multi-directional signpost.

With all the travel I’ve been doing this year, I absolutely could not resist designing this one. I did a little research and a little sketching. I worked up a pattern and sent it off to my pattern testers.

It is now tested and ready to share!

This awesome, versatile pattern is perfect to express your wanderlust or to point to where your loved ones are, or maybe share your favorite fandom locations. Think fabric with existing text, hand or machine embroidery, stenciling, fabric markers, the list goes on!

or

10″ x 30″ (10 1/2″ x 30 1/2″ with seam allowance) as shown, made using three paper pieced blocks.

Need more signs? Duplicate and rotate the center block! Add to larger projects or make as is for a fun wall hanging.

Includes full-color instructions with fabric amounts, suggestions, and paper pieced pattern.

And here is Amber’s fantastic tested version! She has big plans for this and I can’t wait to share what she does!

If  you try your hand at this pattern, I’d love to see what you do with it over in the Sewhooked Facebook Group! Not on Facebook? Tag me on Instagram (@sewhookedjen) or Twitter (@sewhooked)!

Thank you for stopping by and have a fantastic weekend! 😀

See you soon!

Free Pattern Friday – Satia’s Shuriken

free-pattern-friday

Back in 2012, when Fandom in Stitches was in its infancy, a friend and then-TTMT video maker, Satia, shared a drawing for a pattern idea:

Original drawing by Satia Schutz. Used with permission.

Shuriken

Using her Naruto-inspired drawing, I turned her design into a pattern to paper piece.

Today, I’m sharing this pattern once again. No updates are needed from the 2012 version because it is a clean and simple pattern, with pieces to make a 6″ or 10″ block.

You can see the 2012 blog post from Fandom in Stitches here.

Enjoy!

Free Pattern Friday – Diamonds in the Rails Quilt Pattern

Diamonds in the Rails by Jennifer Ofenstein b

A few weeks ago, I shared the wedding quilt I designed for my husband’s brother and his new wife. I dubbed the quilt “Diamonds in the Rails” because of the diamond pattern inside of the more traditional rail fence.

This was supposed to be a tutorial, but I guess I should know myself better than that! I started writing and what began as a tutorial ended up as a full-blown pattern. Oops!

It’s been a while since I had a Free Pattern Friday, so why not?

My version is made using Northcott Stonehenge for the “rails” and Northcott Artisan spirit (I sadly can’t remember the specific print name) for the “diamonds.” All of this fabric was left over from my Project of Doom 2015. I talk more about this quilt and it’s design in this TTMT.

Diamonds in the Rails, as shown, finishes 76” x 88” (plus 1/2″ for binding). I’ve included some ideas for variations in the pattern including how to make a smaller version as well as a coloring page for those of you who like to plan your fabric placement.

Diamond in the Rails is an easy peasy pattern you can crank out in no time. Use strip & chain piecing to make it go even faster. If you make your own version, I’d love to see it!

Enjoy! ♥

Free Pattern Friday – Sailor Hat

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Today’s pattern was a special request from Sylvie, who needed a simple Sailor’s Hat.

I didn’t have time to try this one out myself but was lucky enough to have some willing testers, including Sylvie. Thank you to everyone who helped!

Sailor Hat is 6″ x 10″ finished with instructions to make it 10″ finished by adding simple sashing.

Want it bigger? I have a tutorial for that!

Have a pattern idea? Leave it in my Suggestion Box!

Enjoy!

Free Pattern Friday – Pretzel!

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Many, many years ago (according to my computer, about twelve!) a friend asked for a pretzel pattern.

So, of course, I said yes!

I thought it would be fun to share this updated version, which has zero carbs, zero calories, and finishes at 5″. Want it bigger? I have a tutorial for that!

Enjoy!

Rainbow Cascade – Nudge for Set 14 (The End!)

rainbow cascade badge.jpg

Welcome back to the Rainbow Cascade Quilt Along!

Today is Nudge 14, our final Rainbow Cascade nudge!

Remember, Rainbow Cascade is made from a single block repeated in a rainbow of colors. Once you’ve completed your blocks, follow the chart in the pattern to piece your  Rainbow Cascade quilt top.

Haven’t started yet? It’s never too late! Thanks to my Patreon Patrons, this quilt along post will remain free for your quilting pleasure.

And here it is, my own completed quilt top!

Rainbow Cascade quilt top

A lot has happened since I first created the pattern for Rainbow Cascade. I want to thank each and every person who has joined me on what turned into an amazing journey!

I’d also like to share an extra thanks to my friends who allowed me to photograph in their beautiful home. The weather (and pollen!) haven’t been great for outdoor photography.

Did you make this quilt, too? Share in our Facebook Group or tag it & me on Instagram – #rainbowcascadeqal @sewhookedjen!

I added a white 3″ (3 1/2″ with seam allowance) outside border to my 70″ x 80″ Rainbow Cascade. My final quilt top is 76″ x 86″ (+ 1/2″ for binding). If a simple border like this is something you would like to do, I HIGHLY recommend cutting your border to the appropriate size first and pinning well before stitching. Rainbow Cascade’s many pieces are fraught with bias edges. Accurate borders will help keep your quilt top edges from distorting.

Need a little help with fabric amounts for your borders? I use the Robert Kaufman Quilting Calculator App on my smartphone. This is not a paid endorsement, I just love the app! It’s highly useful to calculate amounts for borders, backs, binding, and more.

I highly recommend using an Add-A Quarter-Ruler during paper piecing to minimize bulk AND to press seams open when piecing paper pieced sections together. You’ll find more instructions in the pattern document.
