The Zip File of Doom

After being asked for it many, many times, I’m pleased to announce that The Project of Doom is now available for download in one zip file via Craftsy!

Are you a fan of my free patterns? I love to share, but a girl’s got to make a living, too. Help support my design habit by shopping with me on Craftsy! 😉

Memorial Day - Veterans

Speaking of Craftsy…they have an awesome Memorial Day promotion going on in which a portion of all class sales will benefit a veteran organization!  Select classes are up to 60% off, including a many quilting and sewing classes. How awesome is that!?

Support the site that supports indie designers and in turn help support a good cause!

This awesome Memorial Day event lasts through midnight May 27 (MST).

For Memorial Day weekend, thank a Veteran and have a free pattern on me!

Stitching, Stitching, Stitching

Now that we’re officially underway with the Fandom In Stitches Doctor Who Stitch Along, I can talk a little bit about it!

DW-SAL-Badge

Want to join in? Just click the banner! It’s completely free, and most certainly fun!

The idea for the Stitch Along came to me in the fall of 2012 during a conversation about the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who.

Woah…definitely something to celebrate! I was working full time and didn’t have two minutes to rub together, but still the idea percolated. It niggled and irritated and then eventually…I was not working full time anymore! I threw some confetti and then invited some of the most talented hand embroiders I know to help design a 12 block quilt. I told them my idea and we immediately got to work.

The idea, from concept to today, has been about a 7  month process. Before I ever approach anyone to work on a project like this, I do my utmost to think it through. Will it work? Is it a good idea? Who will want to make it? Which blog should it be featured on (I run both Sewhooked and Fandom In Stitches)? What designers (or in many cases, potential designers) should I approach?

And of course, most of all, bigger than anything else…will it be fun?

The answer to the last question should always, ALWAYS be yes!

My version of our Doctor Who quilt is going to be a gift for my daughter. She graduates at the end of May and will be going off to university in the fall. She is by far the most serious Whovian in our house and is super excited at the idea of having a Who-themed quilt!

The First Doctor block completeHello there, Doctor!

This is the very first incarnation of The Doctor, looking very proper. My version is worked entirely in backstitch.

Embroidery pattern designed by Aalia from Joy of Stitches. If you haven’t seen Aalia’s stitching, you have got to visit her blog. Her work is absolutely stunning!

The quilt for my daughter will be made all out of blues with scrappy fabrics. Something like this…

scrappy version (dark outer border)I love how the different blues create a pinwheel effect. Lovely!

Quilt layout designed by me in EQ7 and available on Fandom In Stitches.

fabric for the Doctor Who Stitch Along

These are our fabrics, all pulled from my stash. It seems I have a thing for stars and swirls…in case anyone was unsure about that!

Love Doctor Who? These are my other Who-Themed patterns…all paper pieced and available on for free on the Doctor Who page over on FiS.  If you love DW, be sure to check the Doctor Who page for other fun patterns by some of Fandom In Stitches‘ talented designers!

I have lots to tell you about my amazing weekend, but that will have to wait for the BIG REVEAL in tomorrow’s Talk To Me Tuesday!

Today, I want to share an epic and exciting event going on over on Fandom In Stitches: The Fandom For Charity Project of Doom Block Drive!

I’ve combined some of my favorite things: Fandom In Stitches, Harry Potter and The Linus Connection for this fun event! We will be creating a Project of Doom Quilt that will be given away to one lucky person while simultaneously raising money and awareness for my favorite charity!

Random Monday Thoughts

Thank you to every single person that has helped spread the word about the pattern theft that has taken place against Fandom In Stitches and many of my designer friends.

I have taken as many measures as I can to rectify the situation and can now only wait and see what happens. Your support of myself and the online crafty community is much appreciated!

Binding a super secret project!
On a more positive note, I mailed off a super secret project this over the weekend. I wonder what it could be?!

And now, a quote from my favorite headmaster:

We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided. Lord Voldemort’s gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great. We can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.
~Albus Dumbledore

And, as a happy aside, have you seen Aalia’s wonderful Doctor Who-inspired Prayer Leaf tutorial?

Until tomorrow, my dear friends!

All that Glitters is FANDOM!

Have you heard the news?

Lilja is hosting Not All Who Wander Are Lost, a Lord of the Rings block of the month and the follow-up to There and Back Again, over on Fandom In Stitches!

There will be a new post the first Friday of every month in 2013 and the very first post when live yesterday!

Lilja rounded up SEVEN talented designers to participate, myself include.

I am absolutely thrilled to watch Fandom In Stitches grow and was more than happy to have such a talented friend and fellow-designer head up this year’s biggest Fandom In Stitches event!

Why are you still here? Go check out FiS for the first three patterns and to see the gorgeous blocks they make!

There and Back Again

TABABOM by jen

We have traveled There and Back Again and this journey, at least is complete!

The quilt top above is my version of the There and Back Again (TABABOM) project designed by myself, Lilja Björk, Schenley Pilgram and Michelle Thompson and presented through Fandom In Stitches.

I used all Stonehenge Fabrics from Northcott to create my TABABOM quilt top. I already have quilting plans so that my own TABABOM journey will be truly complete!

I can’t tell you what an honor it was to get to work with these three talented ladies. When I first approached them about the project, it t was just an idea. A Hobbit Block of the Month. They all enthusiastically joined in and we all worked out how many blocks, what blocks, who would design each and agreed on a layout. Without them, this project would not be what it is!

The Lonely Mountain, TABABOM Block 13

The Final Block, The Lonely Mountain

If you are a Tolkien fan, or just love beautiful quilts, check out our final TABABOM post. It includes block 13, The Lonely Mountain, designed by yours truly as well as photos of each of the quilts created by the designers.

All patterns for TABABOM can be found on Fandom In Stitches.

You’re wondering how we can possibly top this? Lilja is organizing a year-long Lord of the Rings Block of the Month with multiple designers, faces old and new to FiS, to continue the journey. Not All Who Wander Are Lost will be presented through Fandom In Stitches starting January 2013. How exciting is that?!
