TTMT #183 – TABABOM!

I ran out of time to mention what we’ll be doing over on FiS next year! Lilja is organizing a year-long Lord of the Rings Block of the Month with multiple designers, faces old and new to FiS, to continue the journey. Not All Who Wander Are Lost will be presented through Fandom In Stitches starting January 2013. How exciting is that?!

There and Back Again

TABABOM by jen

We have traveled There and Back Again and this journey, at least is complete!

The quilt top above is my version of the There and Back Again (TABABOM) project designed by myself, Lilja Björk, Schenley Pilgram and Michelle Thompson and presented through Fandom In Stitches.

I used all Stonehenge Fabrics from Northcott to create my TABABOM quilt top. I already have quilting plans so that my own TABABOM journey will be truly complete!

I can’t tell you what an honor it was to get to work with these three talented ladies. When I first approached them about the project, it t was just an idea. A Hobbit Block of the Month. They all enthusiastically joined in and we all worked out how many blocks, what blocks, who would design each and agreed on a layout. Without them, this project would not be what it is!

The Lonely Mountain, TABABOM Block 13

The Final Block, The Lonely Mountain

If you are a Tolkien fan, or just love beautiful quilts, check out our final TABABOM post. It includes block 13, The Lonely Mountain, designed by yours truly as well as photos of each of the quilts created by the designers.

All patterns for TABABOM can be found on Fandom In Stitches.

You’re wondering how we can possibly top this? Lilja is organizing a year-long Lord of the Rings Block of the Month with multiple designers, faces old and new to FiS, to continue the journey. Not All Who Wander Are Lost will be presented through Fandom In Stitches starting January 2013. How exciting is that?!

A Narrow Bridge of Stone Without a Parapet

The Bridge to Rivendell

It’s There and Back Again (TABABOM) new pattern day over on Fandom In Stitches, my website dedicated to free fandom patterns designed by fans, for fans!

This is month 5 of TABABOM, and my first appearance as a designer in this year-long project.

My pattern for this month is The Bridge To Rivendell, inspired by a combination of the bridge described in The Hobbit and the Rivendell bridges shown in the movie version of The Lord of the Rings.

I have worked with designers Michelle Thompson, Lilja Björk Sigurdórsdóttir and Schenley Pilgram to create a block of the month that will journey with Bilbo on his adventure There and Back Again.

I wanted to really try something new with this project and am piecing all of my blocks using Northcott’s Stonehenge fabrics in order to create a stone mural-esque quilt. My thought was that I wanted my quilt to look like a piece of art created by Tolkien’s dwarves.

There and Back Again BOM Month 4 The Bridge to Rivendell

If you are a fan of any variety, I encourage you to follow Fandom In Stitches. In addition to our current block of the month, we post free patterns regulary, have occasional challenges and giveaways. It’s such a fun site to be part of because, after all, we are all fans of something!

Photobucket In November of 2012, I will celebrate my tenth year as a Linus Connection volunteer! I have spent almost all of those years at the Linus webmistress and am now on my second go as a Board Member.

I’m currently in charge of blanket packing and distribution during our monthly meetings, which simply means I make sure each facility gets what they need from the donated blankets we receive. I also write all the blog posts for our group, as well as take care of our Facebook and Twitter pages.

You will hear me talk about “Linus” a lot. When I do, I’m always referring to The Linus Connection of Central Texas, a small non-profit based right here in Austin.

My personal goal is 2 blankets a month, or 24 blankets per year.

***

In 2012, I will continue to collect Stars for Linus (see above!). In 2011, we donated 3 Stars for Linus quilts to The Linus Connection. This year, let’s try to make it 4!

Each quilt block needs to be 12″ (12 1/2″ unfinished) and made in bright colors with a light background.

You can use my free pattern or any star pattern of your choice, including Wonky Stars!

You can find my mailing address on the Stars for Linus pattern. For best results, print without scaling. If your pattern scales down, simply make the borders a little bigger and then square up to 12 1/2″!

We Are The Face of Quilting The Faces of Quilting come in all shapes, sizes, ages and skin tones.

Share your story of quilting on your own blog and post your photo in our flickr group!

Well, I guess that about sums it up! This week I’m planning a look back at 2011 as well as my 12 for 2012 post. I hope you are having a very happy new year!

Don’t forget, now through midnight, get 50% off your total Sewhooked Shop instant download purchase! Use coupon code STITCHEDJAN1 for half-off your entire PDF order!

Happy crafting!
