Freestanding Lace FSL Christmas Tree Assembly (an OESD design)

Freestanding lace Christmas Tree assembly! This video is not sponsored, I just really love making machine-embroidered lace. β™₯

This was a big project that included THIRTY SIX PIECES. As I mentioned in my most recent TTMT (show & tell vlog), I’ve made this design before (video below), but at the time the largest hoop my machine would take was 5″x7″ which was just a smidge too small. I didn’t realize my hoop was too small until after I’d purchased the design, and even on sale it was not inexpensive, and I was NOT going to waste it! Scaling the design down did work, but it was VERY fiddly to assemble. Full size was much easier!

My first FSL Tree, 2020 video:

The supplies I used are listed below. I’m a “use what I have” gal! Use what you have, shop online, or buy at your local quilt or craft store. Mostly have a good time! Affiliate links are marked. *

  • You will need a zig-zag machine or a strong hand-sewing needle to assemble the tree skirt.
  • Design – OESD FSL Christmas Tree #12700
  • My fabrics are a variety of green batiks and one red batik. I think the scrappy fabric adds depth, but again, I was using what I had. I precut all fabric in squares slightly larger than they needed to be and added lightweight fusible interfacing* to the back.
  • Water soluble/wash away stabilizer (I have used a variety of brands/types and I prefer the white, not clear, for FSL. Use what works best for you.)

TTMT 806 – Heirloom Applique (quilty show & tell)

Today I share a surprise finished quilt. It was even a surprise to me! My energy and inspiration have been loooow, but I always feel better when I am working on something, so here we are!

There are no patterns for Heirloom Applique. The original blocks were made by my great-aunt, passed to my grandmother, and then to my aunt, who gave them to me. I replicated several of the designs using my embroidery software to make machine applique, adding the cats from a drawing by my eldest kiddo. The final design was me trying to make it all work together. I hope you enjoy it!

Interested in my process? I have a playlist of all the videos that includes blocks to quilt!

I forgot to mention my newly re-released free pattern, Turkey Talk!

Turkey Talk

designed by Jennifer Ofenstein, sewhooked.com

12β€³ traditionally or paper pieced block

OR 12β€³ x 19β€³ wall hanging

Hello, my friends! Thank you so much for the wonderful feedback from my tie-dye birthday video for Jewells (@nmjewells)! Your reaction was fantastic!

Today I’m sharing several projects that I’ve held on to for one reason or another, the big one being last week’s BIG video, including a surprise gift from Amber, some kind of mind-blowing free-standing lace, and a finished quilt!

TTMT #795 – #ttmtbom Month 5

Today I’m coming to you from the past while I’m romping around the world with my favorite guy! I’m sharing my #ttmtbom blocks for September as well as some goodies I made for Jewells and her daughter.

Hat Pattern-ish!
The crochet hat is made with an H or I hook. For the adult hat I show here, chain ~38 (or as many as you need to reach nose to crown), turn, sc across, turn, ch 1, sc across in back loops only. Repeat until you reach the width you want, then turn, ch 1, slst in the back loops to close, gather the top, tie off, top with a pom pom if you like and you’re done!

TTMT #792 – Of Magic Cats & Gaming Turtles

In between a lot of really un-fun adulting, I’ve been trying to squeeze in some happy projects. First up is a Halloween Quilt finish that I’ve now passed on to my quilt-loving eldest kiddo. I also completed a really fun gift for a good friend’s birthday.

(The sound in this video is a bit weird and I apologize for that. I was trying a new microphone setup and though my couple of tests sounded fine, this did NOT. I’d already given the quilt away when I realized and as I’m no voice-over expert, I decided to do my best to edit the audio and will go back to my regular set up next week.)

TTMT #604.5 – Happy Christmas Tree

I finished it!

If you brave this epic freestanding machine embroidery project, I HIGHLY recommend using tweezers for assembly. Those buttonettes are no joke! The design is here.

Warm holiday wishes, my friends! β™₯
