Los Angeles Needleworks is selling PATTERNS AVAILABLE FOR FREE taken from all over the internet, including those from Fandom In Stitches and more.
Please, PLEASE support your indie designers and free patterns online and DO NOT purchase anything from them. We would very much appreciate it you could spread the word and help stop this theft.
I’ve just emailed them telling whoeversheis that she should be thoroughly ashamed of herself selling free patterns. Probably won’t make any difference but I feel a bit better.
My hope is that enough people do this that the person or persons involved with think twice before stealing content again.
I posted last week about my primitive patterns being robbed and taken over for sale by others. I am beginning to hate the internet.
I’ve been sharing content online for free since the late 1990s and this is the very first time I’ve had to deal with something on this scale. Usually, patterns just get reposted without anyone trying to profit from it. My level of disappointment with the dishonesty is huge.
This is disgraceful! I saw some of Sonja’s free patterns too. I’ve emailed her, and I am planning on emailing this theiving site to let them know how I feel!
I emailed her, too, as well as every other designer whose work I recognized. I can’t even tell you how upset I am about this.
Thanks Anna and Jen! I’m so glad there are good people looking out for each other out there. I’ll blog about this shortly as well.
I did the same. Scoulded and TRIED to shame them. What can be done about this kind of thing? Wretched !
Wow…..I posted a link on my blog bringing them back to this post.
Disney does not abide saddles of their brand image. I’m surprised that those paper pieced princesses are still up.
Do they have a Facebook page? If so, I think we should all go to their Facebook page and leave comments warning prospective buyers that they are purchasing stolen goods!
Another reader let me know that their Facebook has been deactivated. Great idea, though!
It’s people like this that spoil it for everyone else… You/she might want to let paypal know of this pattern theft.
I’m working on that…
My comment didn’t go thru, but I emailed PayPal. The email is spoof@paypal.com
I did as well. They have a terms of service violation form on the site, too. Hopefully it helps!
I’m emailing PayPal. We all should, they’re using PayPal to collect payments. It is spoof@paypal.com
I shared this post on Twitter & Facebook too 🙂
Wouldn’t this be a case of copyright infringement? A cease and desist order/letter can be sent to them. KEEP copies of all correspondence and let them know you will be seeking legal recourse.
Here’s a what Wikipedia says about copyright:

The facebook page has been deactivated but the person behind the website is still on there!

This is very very sad. Designers, like you, share their amazing talents and someone else takes advantage of that. I found another designer that has had his work taken and he actually has a page saying what we can do to help – http://www.dorkstitch.com/category/news/
I’m sorry this has happened to you!
There always seems to be someone to take advantage and present something as their own work. Plagiarism is on the rise in universities, in research and, it seems, in every creative endeavour. Not only must we be vigilant, we must identify those who steal.
I’ve posted this to both my blog and facebook page! How disappointing that someone feels like they need to make money on your patterns! Disgraceful… Thanks for bringing it to our attention!
I’ve emailed them letting them know that what they are doing is disgusting. And I will be reposting it on facebook and twitter. They can’t get away with it.
I have emailed all the businesses that they link to on their website to let them know that it seems as though they are affiliated with a thief. Unfortunately I am international so don’t have a US phone number. Maybe we can all email Joann’s and Michael’s and let them know…? This is going to get around and MS DIXIE will be out of business soon. For what? For a few extra $$’s? Disgusting.
Sent them an email too. Maybe those whose property has been stolen in this manner can get together (online) and see if they can get a lawyer to represent the group. Publicity would be the key. We should all send more than one email to them too.
Also posted this on Quilting Board!
How sad. You might like to consider stamping your photos with “free at sewhooked” so they can’t use them and alert people who might buy them from such unscrupulous netters.
You should notify Google about this and they will remove the site from their search engine.

I did this and Google removed the site within about a week. I don’t know how much money she’s making off this scam, but she’ll be feeling it when she’s no longer being indexed.
Hopefully the Hosting company will comply with the DMCA takedown notices. The only issue with this is that they can just go and find more hosting. As a manager of a larger webhosting company myself, I see this all the time.
Persistence is the key, if they move to another host we will have to keep sending in the DMCA notices.
Thanks everyone for the kind words regarding this tragedy.
Great post – the more people that hear about this the better. I also emailed and FB’d this person on behalf of members of Sprite Stitch, but was ignored, deleted and blocked (just before the FB page was removed.) Shameful behaviour!
Thank you to everyone who’s doing something!
If they are copyrighted and you say on your site that they are for personal use only and can’t be sold, could not sue this theiving place?
It looks like we’ve been successful! The link now says the account has been suspended!! Nicely done everyone!
My inbox and phone have been going crazy! Well done, indeed!
While I’m at it, I want to sincerely thank you for all the free and spectacular patterns. I am STILL not finished with my Harry Potter quilt but almost. It’s been a long time (almost a year now) since I started and LIFE keeps interrupting my efforts but I’m so proud of my quilt and everyone who sees my work in progress says they want one too. I am in awe of people like you who are willing to share so “freely” (a play on words, ha ha) and then THIS whole mess is what you get as a reward. I hope all will be rectified soon and that it is totally favorable for you. Thank you again.
Thank you so very much, Judy. Harry Potter quilting has brought me in contact with some of the best people I’ve ever known and it’s my great privilege to have been such a huge part of it. While I do sell many patterns, my fandom patterns are always close to my heart and they will always, always be free.
With your permission I would like to post this in two online forum’s that I am a member of: My Quilt Place and Quilt With US. Laura Mars

I think I read of something like this a while back and the site doing it was in Japan or China, so they prtobably are not afraid of the U S and our copywrite laws. But I hope the out pour to PayPal will help ruin their business.
The site is suspended
when I tried to get them what I thought so they must have been scared out.
