Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!
I have a fun new pattern to share with you today. It’s made a little extra special because this is my first new pattern since I added a new gift for $10 Patreon Patrons: New Pattern Dedication!
Today’s pattern, Throwing Stars, is dedicated to the following $10 Patrons:
Irene Beattie
Bobbie S. Piland
&
Cynthia Prater
Thank you for your amazing support!
Throwing Stars is a deceptively simple block made of just one paper pieced unit repeated throughout the block.
This pattern went through several iterations before I settled on the final version. BIG thanks to my BFF Jewells for the awesome name idea!
Pattern includes instructions and patterns for a 12″ finished or 24″ finished block.

There are infinite patterns out there and it can be hard to know if some other designer has already created what I’m working on. I’ve been using Google Image Search for quite some time to help with that.
Click the little camera image (see below) and upload the image you want to search. I usually search quilt, quilt block, paper pieced, etc. Then I look through the similar images to make sure I’m not re-inventing the wheel!
Are you quilting along with Paper Piecing Vintage? Share a Signature Block for the PPV Signature Quilt! This special project is a for a commemorative signature quilt that I will keep after Paper Piecing Vintage has concluded. Find this block on page 21 of Paper Piecing Vintage. If you’re only making a few blocks, you can also find the Signature Block Pattern right here.

Awesome pattern Jennifer, my pile of patterns to make just keeps getting bigger.
Thanks so much for that tip on searching for similar blocks. Will be trying that soon.
Thanks, Vanda! Wait until you see Monday’s post… Next event announcement. EEP!
I usually spend a good amount of time Googling both text and images before I publish a pattern. I never want to step on anyone’s toes by assuming that I’m the first to design something. There are traditional blocks that aren’t paper pieced that I’ve shared as paper pieced, generally a redesign in order to do so, but if someone has already designed a pattern that is entirely the same as the way I’d planned to do it, I’ll move on to the next idea.
