TTMT #824 – Ineffable Raggedies (Raggedy Rescue Show & Tell)

This week I’m delighted to share the finish of my most recent Raggedy Rescue project, my first ever Raggedy Makeover!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve transformed two thrift store Raggedy Andys into Raggedy Aziraphale & Raggedy Crowley from Good Omens!

As mentioned in the video, I will have a process video coming soon that will include lots more details from thrifted dolls to what you see today. If you have questions about the process, let me know so I can try to include that information.


I primarily use McCall’s Crafts Pattern 8377. The pattern is out of print but you can often find it on Etsy or Ebay. If you have sewing friends, it’s worth asking if they might have a Raggedy Ann & Andy pattern. I’ve had several gems come my way from friends!

The Raggedy Ann & Andy clothing pattern shown in this video is a vintage McCalls 3002 Sewing Pattern for 15″, 20″, & 25″ dolls. I found mine on Ebay.

TTMT #823 – Putting the Pieces Together (Crafty Show & Tell)

It’s been a super busy week full of real-life stuff, but I still have some things to share! Most importantly, I’ve finished the doll body updates for my current Raggedy project! Clothes are cut out and ready to make. I also share progress for an unexpected project that landed with a crash!

I have drafted my finished Sting Bookcase Block into a cleaner, simpler pattern and I am looking for a pattern tester who can test by the end of March or early April. The design is 10″ x 20″ paper pieced (plus seam allowance). If you might be interested, please drop me an email at my Fandom in Stitches account – ofenjen@fandominstitches.com.

TTMT #821 – TTMT Blocks & Tolkien Row! (Quilty Show & Tell)

I’m still chug chug chugging away at the titles for my hub’s bookcase block and am really pleased with progress so far. March 1 was our next to last post for the TTMT BOM! You can find those pattern links below.

The flower vine on the Aragorn & Arwen book is from an OESD Heirloom Legacy set (plants & birds), design DC067_48. It’s from an older CD set and I could not locate it on their website.

I have been using  Embrilliance  Stitch Artist 1 to create my book titles and draw images for this quilt. Several people have asked what I’ve used to “turn” my images into embroidery, and the simplest answer is that I draw them myself in Stitch Artist 1. They are not “digitized” but drawn by me specifically as embroidery images.

Raggedy Rescue: Q & A #2 – Questions from Comments

In this video, I’m taking some of your questions and comments and sharing what I can to hopefully help in your Raggedy Rescue adventure! All opinions are my own and I’m always happy to learn. If you have a question I didn’t answer, or a tip or trick, please leave it in comments.

Mentioned in this video:

  • The dolls I don’t come from friends or local thrift shops I’ve purchased from shopgoodwill.com. Search “raggedy”
  • Depending on your preference, you can choose from a wide variety of doll stuffing. I suggest searching for “doll stuffing +content.” For example: “doll stuffing cotton”
  • Carbona Stain Devils Stain chart – which product to use on what kind of stain (including mildew!) https://carbona.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/sd_new_chart.pdf
  • Safety Eyes – available with and without shank backs! I mentioned in the video that you can cut off the back, but if you’re specifically looking for an eye to glue on, you can buy them that way. You learn something new every day!
  • Amazon has a wide variety. You can also find doll eyes in much smaller quantities at your local craft store.
  • Embroidering on an already stuffed doll – this shows me embroidering a heart instead of an eye, but the technique is the same.

Raggedy Ann & Andy Pattern Tidbits:

  • I primarily use McCall’s Crafts Pattern 8377. The pattern is out of print but you can often find it on Etsy or Ebay. If you have sewing friends, it’s worth asking if they might have a copy. I’ve had several gems come my way from friends!
  • Other McCall’s Numbers for Raggedy Ann & Andy: 5499, 2447, 846, or 713 (10″, 15″, 20″ & 25″). The patterns include the doll pattern, clothing pattern, and instructions.
  • Simplicity pattern 8043* is in print and certainly less expensive in most cases, but I haven’t personally tried it yet. The clothes and dolls look almost identical to the older McCalls patterns. Simplicity owns McCalls now, but I do not know if their pattern predates the merger. If you’ve already compared the two patterns, please let me know.
  • The Raggedy Ann & Andy clothing pattern shown in this video is a vintage 3002 McCalls Sewing Pattern for 15″, 20″, & 25″ dolls. I found mine on Ebay.
