The letter “x” is actually the letter “w” when I click on it. ‘Sew’ glad to find another H/P fan.

Hi Annie, I have it all sorted out now. Would you believe it was the difference between S and s? I’ve checked every letter now and all patterns are loading just fine! I hope you share a photo of what you’re working on when you’re done!

Thanks for letting me know about the error. I’d much rather have it corrected than let it linger. πŸ™‚

I have searched & searched for directions/guidance on how to construct a bookcase with more shape than a basic box. I found the claw feet, but I was hoping to find help with a cornice at the top of the bookcase in order to put a crest there. Plus, help with measurements. More importantly, I REALLY want to create a stone castle wall border to widen my quilt. Can you direct me to where this kind of help is?

        Thank you for your time,

Absolutely! We have a HUGE Facebook group just for The Project of Doom. Everyone there is happy to share and they are incredibly helpful. They are often able to answer questions before I can, too.

I also highly recommend checking out our Harry Potter content on Fandom in Stitches. You’ll find a lot of options by many talented designers.

It looked like you were having so much fun with the PODproject that I have now started out. Are you still interested in a credit-block? I am not able to find the paperpiecing pattern for it, it keeps telling me it’s redirecting, but nothing happens. And I would like to show just a litte of the gratitude I feel about the patterns, I am truly enjoying myself. Thank you!

I’ve sorted out the links, but to make it easier, you can find it here:

      Hi Bonnie,

Harry Potter fabric has not been available for sale since 2003, when it went out of print. Your best bet is to check on ebay or etsy. You can sometimes find it there.

      Good luck!

This is probably going to sound like an insane question…but I love to sew by hand. Is there any way to do this via hand sewing instead of using a machine? Do you know of anyone who has done this? Thank you so much for your help and videos! I recently subscribed to your Youtube link. I love your videos!!!

Believe it or not, it’s completely doable! I knew a student that did all her paper piecing by hand so she could stitch while she was in class. All of her blocks looked great, as did her finished projects, so I’m sure you can do it.

Good luck…let me know how you do!

    Hi Jennifer!
My name is Hannah. I am 14 and am starting to make this quilt with my mom, as a mother-daughter project. We have 2 *gasp* sewing machines, so we can work at the same time, or during any free time we have. If any of the women out there are reading this, and you have a child my age, try to make a quilt with your child; it can really bring you and your child together!!! Thanks for putting this out there Jen; you are amazing!!!!

Hi, Jennifer. I just started making quilts, and am a HUGE HP fan and discovered all your wonderful quilt pieces. I was most excited about the alphabet designs, so I could add my name in HP letters to a bag I have, but I can’t seem to find the designs ANYWHERE! Every link I click on for them takes me to a link that is just a blank page. Have they been removed for some reason? Is there some link to them I am missing? Thanks for your help.

    P. S. I actually live right down the street from the Honey Bee quilt shop, and have shopped there from time to time, I might have to check out your classes sometime. =D

Thank you soooo much for creating the HP blocks. My nephew, a college freshman, is a tremendous HP fan. This year for Christmas, he requested a sleep mask because there is a streetlight outside his dorm window and I thought this was a great opportunity to make him a gift. Wanting to go a step farther, I remembered seeing Harry’s glasses on one of your blocks so I downloaded the pattern and adapted the sleep mask pattern to fit around it. LOL Of course, that made me think that pillowcases would be a great complimentary gift so I also downloaded Harry’s crest and put that on one of the pillowcases. I would love to post a photo of how they turned out (and I am really pleased), but I can’t figure out how to post a photo here. Next week (after Christmas), I’ll post a photo on my Facebook page. Please drop by and look. Thanks to you, my nephew is going to think I’m brilliant! LOL

      Hi Beth,

Thank you so much, it was a true pleasure to create and even more fun to share with other quilters and Harry Potter fans!

The blocks for the Project of Doom are entirely paper pieced, so there are no rotary instructions for those. However, the sashing between the “shelves” and the outside borders are rotary cut. I hope that answers your questions!

You’re more than welcome to change anything you like to make it your own! I’ve seen all kinds of fun variations now, all of them fun and creative!

Depending on the quilt show, you might need written permission. I think it really varies by the show. I’ve had a couple of quilters that needed that, but most don’t seem to. Personally, all I ask is for credit when you share your quilt description. My name and sewhooked.com. is plenty. πŸ™‚

New to sewing and quilting. If there is anything that is going to get me in gear to learn, it’s Harry Potter. I am going to get my two sisters to agree to start the Project of Doom starting January 2014. Now, I’m going to take this month and learn everything I can on paper piecing!! Thank you so much for the patterns! It might take me longer than the allotted 30 weeks, but I will get his project completed before the end of 2014.

Please bear with me. I am fairly new to quilting but really want to make this! I was reading through some of the comments to try to answer my questions. One thing I’m still not sure of is the seam allowance, I saw that you said that there was seam allowance in the units, but not the pieces themselves, does this mean I have to cut the pieces bigger than the patter pieces for the allowance? So sorry, probably a stupid question but I’m so new to all of this.

    Reply
    1. Jennifer Ofenstein's avatarJennifer Ofenstein Post author

      Hi Kerrie,

You have it exactly right, you do cut the pieces bigger so you’ll have seam allowance. If it helps, I have a whole page of paper piecing resources you might find useful: https://sewhooked.com/paper-piecing-resources/. Also, look for Fandom in Stitches and Harry Potter Bookcase Quilt on Facebook. I have communities there and there are lots of people of all skill levels willing to help. πŸ™‚

I’m super excited to begin the PoD project, but curious if you have any guesses of approximately how much fabric you used in the background of each block? (Like the part that becomes the background of the shelf.) I want to be sure I have enough of it so that they are all the same. I saw on the layout instructions how much is needed to create the shelves themselves and whatnot, but I’m curious on the 10” blocks, that background…does that make sense? Thank you!
