TTMT #660 – Memories in Fabric

In which I share the two finished memory quilts. Time was of the essence in this project. It’s very emotional for me, but I know it will be a million times more emotional for the family and I didn’t want to make them wait. I also talk about TTMT friends who’ve come back and some who I was lucky enough to chat with.

Closing Reflections

It’s been two years today since I closed my pattern shop and stopped teaching and I have had no regrets.

(If you are reading this on Facebook, the entire post is at the link.)

See the closing announcement here.

I spent about fifteen years designing, teaching, and selling: to stores, quilt guilds, magazines, & digitally. I wrote a book that was bought by a publisher and then canceled. Trunk shows, events, & classes were all part of my life. The decision to “retire” was the culmination of many things, not the least of which was my mental & physical health and the overwhelming feeling that *I* was the product. I have the utmost respect for designers who can hustle day after day, year after year. In the end, I realized I’d grown in a different direction and it was time to move on. I still love designing, I will always love quilting, and I still share my retired patterns in exchange for a small donation to a local-to-the-quilter non-profit (monetary, material, or time). (Email me with your receipt or proof of volunteering – sewhooked@gmail.com. One pattern per donation.)

My free patterns continue to be available here on sewhooked.com & fandominstitches.com.

It’s on my list for 2022 to put together a list of retired patterns. I meant to do that in 2020, but here we are.

Make what you love and if all possible, love what you do.

All the best for a safe & happy New Year.

TTMT #653 – Progress Report (Sewing Room Makeover #2)

In which I share my progress from the last week of DIY. I’ve been working flat out to get this room done so I can get back to sewing!

The color temperature is all over the place in the video so I put some photos at the end so you can get a better idea of what the wall color actually looks like. I think that’ll sort itself out when I have proper lighting and stuff on the walls.

Be sure to stop by fandominstitches.com tomorrow to see the Design Invitational entries for the Year of Doom Multi-Fandom Bookcase Quilt Along.

Thanks for watching!
