TTMT # 262 – Lots on the Way & a Blast from the Past!

In this video:

Four Doctors meet their hand embroidered counterparts from the Doctor Who Stitch Along!
Peter Davison, The Fifth Doctor & Colin Baker, The Sixth Doctor
Sylvester McCoy, The Seventh Doctor & Paul McGann, The Eighth Doctor
Sometimes I receive emails from the Fandom In Stitches community that leave me utterly speechless. These fantastic images are courtesy of Claudia D. Claudia made the Doctor Who Stitch Along quilt for her daughter Allison. The layout is my own Faux Mitered Marvel.
Allison attended Comic Palooza in Houston, Texas over the weekend. She took her Doctor Who Stitch Along quilt with her and this is what happened! Claudia shared these awesome photos with us and has given her permission to share them with all of you. Thank you Claudia!
Blocks shown were designed by Jordan Frederick (The Eighth Doctor), Kristel Carnahan (The Fifth & Seventh Doctors) and me (The Sixth Doctor). All patterns can be found on the Doctor Who page on Fandom in Stitches.

Okay, fandom? Okay.

Okay? Okay.

I get a lot of emails from readers of both Sewhooked & Fandom in Stitches and one of the comments I receive more than any other is “why aren’t your fandom patterns on Sewhooked?”

Well, isn’t that a good question?

Back in 2012, I split Sewhooked in two when I established Fandom in Stitches. My collection of fandom patterns designed by myself and my friends had grown so huge that it was actually crashing my website. After a lot of rearranging, I eventually decided that those fandom patterns needed a home of their own.

Everything that was Harry Potter Paper Piecing, the Twilight Block of the Month (designed by Cat Magraith), and a slew of other fandom-themed patterns by both myself and my designer friends were the beginning of Fandom in Stitches.

When I split Sewhooked, I moved all those fandom patterns to make Sewhooked friendlier and easier to navigate. The unanticipated side effect is that you, my beloved and loyal readers, often don’t realize that I design for more than one website, so when I share a pattern like The Fault In Our Stars: Okay? Okay. (above), you may never see it.

So, by popular request, I have compiled my collection of fandom-themed patterns designed by me and put them together on their own page here on Sewhooked!

Each and every one is absolutely free for your personal & non-profit use.

Happy Caturday!

Kitty #selfie!

Rose says hello!

She loves looking at herself, which makes taking a kitty selfie the obvious thing to do! She and I have been busy bonding and I am loving having a kitty that likes to be picked up and snuggled. Merlin and Marie, our other two kitties are sweeties, but being picked up is not part of their contracts. 😉

I bought this super cutie as a welcome home gift for my daughter. It's custom made by the fabulous duo at Deranged Delightz on Etsy. #mushroom #crochet

Yesterday, I drove up to the University of North Texas to help my daughter move home for the summer. It was a whirlwind day with more traffic than I could have even fathomed. It took me just about three hours to drive there, and five to drive back. Egads, was I tired last night, but so very very glad to have my girl home!

This little guy above is a gift I purchased from a friend’s Etsy shop, Deranged Delightz. He’s a Moshi Mushroom, custom made for my daughter in her two favorite colors as a coming home surprise. She loved him and he will now live with her other favorite stufties!

Feeling totally spoiled! Birthday goodies in the mail from my friend Terry. ♡

The  very same friend gifted me with a gorgeous pair of socks and a sweet turtle bag for my birthday! I’ve already worn the perfectly fitting, gorgeous socks and the bag carried my snacks for my road trip yesterday.

The owls on my birthday socks from Terry!

And the socks? THEY HAVE OWLS ON THEM!

Not quite where I wanted to be today, but closer than I was before! #projectofdoom #fandominstitches #harrypotter
This is the current state of the Make-A-Wish Project of Doom. I really wanted it to be basted before the weekend, but it just didn’t happen. Fortunately, it doesn’t need to be in the mail for another couple of weeks, so I have time to get it basted, quilted and bound. Time’s ticking, but I’ll get it done! That backing fabric? Jelly beans! As my friend Amber said, Bertie Bott’s for everyone!

Paper Piecing Vintage: May

May Paper Piecing Vintage Blog

It’s May Day, and the first of the month means a new Paper Piecing Vintage pattern!

Today’s installment is one I’m especially excited about. This pattern is about as traditional as you can get and there’s a good reason it’s still around…it’s cute, cute, cute!

I’ve dubbed my version Our Little House.

As with all the blocks from PPVOur Little House is entirely paper pieced and both 6″ and 12″ patterns are included.

Already registered? Download your updated BOM file now!

Like many of the PPV blocks, the pieces for Our Little House are easy to pre-cut with a little measuring before you start.

Save some time by following these bonus directions for the 12″ block:

  • Use 2″ strips for the narrow pieces (windows, walls, narrow background strips)
  • Use 3 1/2″ strips for the roof and wide background pieces
  • Have fun!

Paper Piecing Vintage Signature Block
April was my birthday month and I have already received many 6″ signature block for the Paper Piecing Vintage Signature Quilt! If you have not yet shared your block I will be accepting Signature Blocks until December 31, 2014. See your pattern for details!

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Vol. 9 Blog Tour!

Welcome to Sewhooked and thanks for stopping by for the Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Blog Tour for Volume 9!

If it’s your first visit to Sewhooked, welcome! If you’re an old friend, welcome back!

This is a super exciting day for me. Not only do I completely love my design for this issue, but it’s the fourth time one of my blocks was chosen for 100 Blocks, which you have to admit, is super happy-making!

Be sure and stick around to the end for TWO awesome giveaways!

Strawberry Yum Yum, by Jennifer Ofenstein 2

Here it is, my delicious block, Yum Yum Strawberry Cake! You can find it on page 38.

Strawberry Yum Yum, by Jennifer Ofenstein

This part never gets old for me!

Strawberry Yum Yum, by Jennifer Ofenstein block

Yum Yum, Strawberry Cake was born from a sketch of cake. It was just a doodle really. I was having coffee, and as I tend to do, was doodling as I talked. And then there was cake!

Strawberry Yum Yum, by Jennifer Ofenstein

This particular block was made using a variety of fabrics from my stash. There’s a little Michael Miller, some Moda and some Timeless Treasures, as well as a few miscellaneous scraps for the stem. Maybe we should say Yum Yum Fabric!

Strawberry Yum Yum, by Jennifer Ofenstein

To add a bit of interest, I decided a declaration of the deliciousness of cake was in order! I use a variety of methods to transfer embroidery to fabric, but for this project, I decided Saral wax free paper would work best. It comes off fairly easily, so it isn’t great for highly detailed embroidery, but it’s perfect for something simple and fast like “yum yum.”

You can find Saral paper on Amazon or at your local arts & crafts supply.

Here’s what the traced word looks like. Perfect for stitching!

While working on my design for Yum Yum Strawberry Cake, I kept coming back to the idea of placemats. How fun, how easy and how very summery! I created four coordinating placemats with four different cakes in similar styles. You can find this photo in the same issue of QM, page 20.

I can’t even begin to tell you how happy these placemats make me! I hope to be able to share instructions for them very soon!

And now, the part of this post you’ve been waiting for…
