A Happy Mother’s Day

Me with Sarah from Houston

Yesterday was an exceedingly special day for me!

A Huge, HUGE thank you goes out to Honey Bee Quilt Store for hosting my first-ever Trunk Show. A very special thank you goes out to my friends that came by to help out and cheer me on, as well as the multitude of visitors that so kindly came by to share part of their day with me!

I can’t say enough good things about all the people I was lucky enough to get to visit with. In the photo above, you see me with blog reader Sarah (wearing an awesome Doctor Who tee!!), who came all the way from Houston! We had a lovely visit and it was wonderful to get to meet her face to face. Thanks for coming, Sarah!

If you came yesterday, THANK YOU. I was nervous and excited and it was a wonderful, wonderful day. Everyone I met was so kind about my work and it was lovely to get to share with so many new faces.

As a special thank you to my readers, helpers and yesterday’s visitors and for all the moms out there on this Mother’s Day, I offer you this sweet pair of free patterns.

Trunk Show Tomorrow!

Getting Ready for My Trunk Show

Hoo, boy, I have been uncharacteristically quiet this week!

The reason for this is simple, my beloved friends, tomorrow is my very first Trunk Show and I have been busy getting ready.

Trunk Show featuring Jennifer Ofenstein
Honey Bee Quilt Store
10am – Noon, Saturday May 12, 2012
9308 Anderson Mill Rd #300

What’s a Trunk Show, you say? Well, it’s a bit like a one-woman show.

This is your chance to see many of my Sewhooked projects in fabric! There will be oodles of Sewhooked patterns for sale, some of which are making their quilt store debut!

There will be Quiltmaker 100 Blocks, Vol. 5 on hand to buy (and I’ll sign my block, if you like!) as well as some fun freebies and a drawing for a wall hanging made by yours truly!

I really hope to see you there! If you’re a blog reader, please be sure to let me know. I love being able to put faces to names. 🙂

Giraffe, Again

Giraffe, free on Craftsy!

Oh, hello Giraffe!

Mr. Giraffe wants you to know that it was his turn for an update. He was a little bit too complex before and there was just something missing for that added “cute.”

After drafting and playing with colors, I realized that extra something was French Knots. Horns, check. Eye, check. How fun!

And, of course, a free pattern post would not be the same without a fun layout created EQ7! How about four giraffes and some fun sashing and cornerstones to create a unique and fun wall hanging?

Soggy Saturday Surprises

Peace, Love, Pi

I woke up this morning to find Peace, Love, Pi featured on Geek Crafts! With March 14 (3-14, get it?!) just around the corner, Peace, Love, Pi makes a perfect project for “Pi Day.”

Check out the Geek Crafts post here.

It’s bucketing down rain today in Austin, which is good news for us as we slowly climb out of severe drought. I’m hoping for a green spring and NO fires.

The rainy day has put our Saturday plans on the back burner. Instead, I’m going to spend my day cleaning and rearranging my sewing space. It’s time to purge things I don’t foresee myself using and tidy up those things I need easy access, too.

My cutting table is also a wibbly wobbly mess and I’m planning to swap it out with another table that will be re-purposed from another area of our house. Fingers crossed that it goes well and I’ll be back to stitching in a couple of days!

Stellar Stripes, quilted

Carol, the winner of the free PDF pattern from my Learning Center post earlier in the week, chose Stellar Stripes as her prize. Carol, I hope you enjoy and can’t wait to see your version!

Quilting Types and Styles on The Learning Center

Talk to Me Tuesday is on the way, but while you wait, I wanted to let you know about a fun opportunity I recently had. Pat Sloan, host of The Learning Center (among many other awesome things!), invited me to write up a little piece explaining what paper pieced quilts are.

Well, how exciting!

Keeping it short was a challenge, but I managed. As you all know, I have loads to say on the subject!

The Learning Center is part of Quilting Gallery, one of my favorite quilt web sites, and is a great resource for quilters to learn all there is to know about quilts. There are new posts regularly and lots of great information!

Check out today’s post and then come back here and let me know what you think. My favorite comment will win a free PDF pattern of their choice! Winner announced Friday, March 9!

Just in case you missed it…Quilting Types and Styles!

Inside The Closet

Boxes of quilt blocks - all original designs

I’ve been doing a lot of designing just recently for projects that I can’t share yet.

I’m very bad at not sharing.

In fact, I want to share ALL THE THINGS.

Until I can spill the beans, I thought I’d share a something else.

These are the boxes I keep my 5″ block samples in.

My eventual plan is to have one mammoth quilt that has all of my block designs in it. Can you imagine how crazy (and how huge!) that would be?!

Just looking at these boxes makes me happy.

I hope you’re having a happy and creative Friday!

Show Me The Money!

Old and very well used checkbook cover

A couple of days ago, Contessa asked me if I had a Dollar Sign pattern.

Hum, well yes, I know I do, because I made a check book cover several years ago.

After poking around on my computer, I realized I’d designed, but never posted, the Dollar Sign.

I pulled it out, dusted it off and added it to the Free Pattern page.

So, happy Wednesday…have a free pattern…iIt won’t cost you a cent!

One Little Turtle

Turtle

Executive decision! You need a free pattern today.

Specifically, a free turtle pattern!

>>> One Little Turtle <<<

5″ paper pieced

(5 1/2″ unfinished)

IMAG0273

I love turtles. There is just something about the way they look and move. They have always seemed serious and dignified to me.

I have a turtle niece named Frankie (above, sister to the famous Lily), and I myself have a small collection that includes hand-carved turtles, glass turtles, crochet ones, fabric ones and even some turtle jewelry. There’s even a possibility (a big one!) that I have a fair amount of turtle fabric in my stash!

One Little Turtle is an updated version of my original Turtle Pattern, still available on the Free Quilt Pattern page.

I hope you enjoy him!

Turkle The Turtle!

This is a turtle I made several years ago from of a vintage toy pattern. He’s made entirely out of scrap fabrics. I call him Turkle!

Turtle

How about a fun layout using One Little Turtle that I whipped up using EQ7 . Isn’t it fun?

Or, how about a table runner?
