It’s

Monty Python - It's
It’s
7″ embroidered

I’ve had such fun this summer challenging myself to create a new design for each week of The Summer of Stitching on Fandom In Stitches. I’ve even waited to start my designs until the announcement, despite knowing what comes next. I do love a challenge!

The latest theme was Monty Python, and I couldn’t create just one! Using Monty Python’s Flying Circus for my inspiration, I used two of what I think are the most iconic things from the show.

One being the infamous “It’s” as spoken by the It’s Man prior to the intro to every episode of MPFC.

If you’re feeling patient, this is 9+ minutes of the It’s Man!

The Ministry of Silly Walks

The second design I shared was inspired not only by the every fabulous and entertaining Ministry of Silly Walks, but also by a stencil I designed some years ago to make t-shirts for my Python-loving family. this version can be used for either purpose.

The Ministry of Silly Walks has been such a big part of my family’s lives, my son even played John Cleese’s part in a theater sketch in middle school. Fun times!

One of the best part of running Fandom In Stitches is that I get to plan fun events for our quilting community!

Summer of Stitching 2014, A Design Invitational on fandominstitches.com

The Summer of Stitching is an open invitation to anyone that might like to design quilt patterns in one of 12 themes presented through August and into September.

I have given myself the goal to create a new pattern for each theme. Patterns can be any technique: paper pieced, embroidered, applique, etc.

The first theme was Sherlock Holmes. You can see my pattern here.

The second theme was Sci-Fi & Fantasy. I decided to go with Fantasy and create a hand embroidered pattern featuring the above quote from The Dresden Files. It’s one of those projects that’s been on my “to do” list for quite some time. I’m a big fan of Jim Butcher’s urban fantasy series and Harry Dresden is a fantastically quotable character! This particular quote is from Storm Front.

I hope you enjoy this free pattern and visit Fandom In Stitches for more fun summer stitching!

The next theme? Monty Python, and I can’t wait to get started!!

One of the best parts of running a fandom website is getting to indulge in the things I love best! I’m a huge fan of Jeremy Brett in the 1980s version of Sherlock Holmes.

Summer of Stitching 2014, A Design Invitational on fandominstitches.com

This summer, Fandom In Stitches is hosting The Summer of Stitching and encouraging our quilting community to contribute designs in a variety of themes.

First up is Sherlock Holmes, which is what inspired today’s design. The first installment for The Summer of Stitching is June 11, 2014 on Fandom In Stitches, so be sure to stop by!

While I’m not eligible for the prize (it doesn’t make much sense to give it to myself!), I couldn’t resist participating and hope to design at least one new pattern for each theme over the next few months.

I get a lot of emails from readers of both Sewhooked & Fandom in Stitches and one of the comments I receive more than any other is “why aren’t your fandom patterns on Sewhooked?”

Well, isn’t that a good question?

Back in 2012, I split Sewhooked in two when I established Fandom in Stitches. My collection of fandom patterns designed by myself and my friends had grown so huge that it was actually crashing my website. After a lot of rearranging, I eventually decided that those fandom patterns needed a home of their own.

Everything that was Harry Potter Paper Piecing, the Twilight Block of the Month (designed by Cat Magraith), and a slew of other fandom-themed patterns by both myself and my designer friends were the beginning of Fandom in Stitches.

When I split Sewhooked, I moved all those fandom patterns to make Sewhooked friendlier and easier to navigate. The unanticipated side effect is that you, my beloved and loyal readers, often don’t realize that I design for more than one website, so when I share a pattern like The Fault In Our Stars: Okay? Okay. (above), you may never see it.
