The wonderful thing about being part of a community like Talk To Me Tuesday are the wonderfully talented, generous and fun people I’ve become friends with.
This is Aalia. When I divvied up swap partners for the 1 Pound Swap, her name came out of the hat for me. I’ve known Aalia since the original Project of Doom back in 2011.
She’s a joy of a person, a fabulously talented designer, a stellar hand embroiderer, a lover of things Harry Potter and I was thrilled to get to send her a pound of crafty love!
Enjoy!

a bonus block for Monster Madness
Nah, I’m not having a nervous breakdown from all the stuff on my proverbial plate!
It’s the end of September, which means my favorite month, OCTOBER, is almost here! Cooler weather, soup, the possibility of wearing my favorite sweater and and and…HALLOWEEN!
After the recent epic revamp of Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends, a few “friends” seemed to be missing! Notably among them was a mummy for Monster Madness.
So here he is as a bonus pattern not included in the original set: I Want My Mummy!
Now, the question is, what other Magical Sue is still wandering around the ephemeral parts of my noggin waiting to come out?!
Reminder: ALL Sewhooked printed patterns are 1/2 price on ETSY (no coupon needed) and will be gone after September 30. That’s a week from yesterday…eek!
Have you made any of my patterns? I’d love to see them! Share a link or better yet, add them to the Sewhooked flickr group!

In an effort to 1) clean out my overflowing sample bins and 2) help my kiddo pay for her college expenses, I’m doing something I rarely do.
I’m selling stuff I made.
Patterns? Sure, I sell those all the time, and nothing gives me more pleasure than being able to share those with you.
There’s something just a little different about selling projects that I worked on with my hot little hands. Everything I work on evokes memories and feels like a little piece of me.
My kiddo is worth it and I have far more samples than I will ever, ever need. Most of these things are one of a kind and the grand majority of them were for The Book That Wasn’t. It feels good to share them with you and move on to new things!
These are the first few goodies I’ve got up for offer:
Dollar included…because why not?! I came up with this idea after the Tooth Fairy was constantly misplacing the pillow each of my kiddos used to put their lost teeth in.
I seriously love this bag…click through to see the inside and back. Inspired by fairies…and fabric!
Saturday Morning Monster Movie Wall Hanging
A combination of Monster Madness and Classic Films…love this piece. As a kid, I loved watching black and white monster movies on Saturday morninings.
Three Witches Log Cabin Table Runner
If Mrs. Weasley was going to have a table runner…
Sweet Skating Sue Wall Hanging
She really is sweet…I loved quilting her, too!
Finished projects not for you? The block patterns used in these projects are available here.

a free 5″ pattern to paper piece!
Today I’d like to share something that’s kind of special to me in an unusual way. I’m sharing this post on Sewhooked and on Fandom in Stitches, both of my quilting blogs, something I rarely ever do.
There’s a good reason for the unusual post, promise!
As many of you already know, about five years ago, I was contracted to design a book full of magical Sunbonnet Sue patterns. Sadly, the book was never published. Despite that setback, I eventually designed almost 60 Sue patterns. Those patterns became the backbone of my pattern company and blog, Sewhooked.
Like Sunbonnet Sue?
There’s an entire page of free and for sale patterns on Sewhooked!
Hogwarts Sue was never part of the book idea, but she was inspired by the theme and is a pattern from The Good Old days before Fandom In Stitches existed. Back then, all my patterns were free and were shared through to Sewhooked and Harry Potter Paper Piecing.
Hogwarts Sue has been retired for quite some time and Harry Potter Paper Piecing is now Fandom In Stitches. It’s time for me to welcome back Hogwarts Sue. She’s a little bit Sewhooked and a little bit Fandom In Stitches.
To celebrate this sweet coming together of my two blogs, I’m giving away a free set of your choice from Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends to one person that makes Hogwarts Sue and posts her to the Fandom In Stitches flickr group and/or Sewhooked flickr group!
You can only win on one time, but you’re welcome to double your chances and share with both groups!
Winner to be announced Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
What might you win? Well, one of these:

It’s September now, and while hints of autumn may be in the air other places in the world, in Austin it’s still hot and sticky and feels like summer!
It’s a good thing, too, because the Summer Sue Makeover to update Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends is not quite done!
Today I bring you two updated sets from the Way Back files: Fanciful Fairies and Friendly Familiars. Both sets have been completely updated, and as with the previously updated set, each individual block is now available as a stand alone pattern exclusively from Craftsy!
How much do I love Sunbonnet Sue? She has her own page here on Sewhooked!
Fanciful Fairies includes 6 full color patterns of sweet fairies!
Tooth Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
My personal favorite is the Tooth Fairy. She’s a busy little lady!
Tulip Fairy (paper pieced), $2 on Craftsy
The Tulip Fairy always makes me think of my sister. Tulips are her favorite flower!
Rose Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Rose Fairy reminds you to take time for the sweet things in life.
Flower Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Flower Fairy is bringing a smile to a friend.
Fairy Godmother (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Everyone needs a Fairy Godmother!
Daisy Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Daisy Fairy is a close second for my favorite. I just love how she’s perched so sweetly!
Bonus Pattern! Water Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Water Fairy is a bonus pattern not included with the set. When I was originally drafting these patterns several years ago for a book that ended up not being published, she was an extra that didn’t make the cut. Here she is now, in her sweet glory!
Friendly Familiars (Paper Pieced Blocks) , $7 on Craftsy
If you have been around Sewhooked for any length of time, you know that I love whimsy and magic. Friendly Familiars is one of the original sets of patterns that were destined for the book-that-wasn’t. I can’t imagine a little witch or wizard worth his (or her!) salt not enjoying the company of a magical creature!
Wizard with Toad (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
I always imagined this to be a little wizard with a toad he found in the garden. He also reminds me of one of my all time favorite Harry Potter characters, Neville Longbottom!
Wizard with Snake (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Snakes tend to be associated with evil. Bad boys need friends, too, right?
Wizard with Rat (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
The question that I ask myself about this pattern is what this Wizard is about to do. I’m voting for conjuring cheese for his rat!
Witch with Owl (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Owls are just magical by nature, aren’t they? This little witch is whispering secrets to her feathery friend!
Witch with Cat (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy
Cats are by far my own favorite magical creature, having had quite a few of my own over the years!
There are still two sets to be updated: Busy Bodies and Wand Wielders. They’re in progress and I hope to have them to you soon! After that, I hope to have some NEW Sues to share!
