One last finish before I head to Linus this morning. #crochet #babyblanket #blanketcharity #thelinusconnectionThis is the photo I mentioned and then forgot to add to the video. I was not 100% happy with the way this came out, but it is done, it is bright and I hope some small kiddo in need will love it!

Pi, $2 a Slice

Happy Pi Day!

Several years ago, I designed this spiffy block for my math-loving family to celebrate Pi Day, March 14. Originally part of the Peace, Love & Pi set, Pi also available individually as a $2 pattern for the rest of March.

From wikipedia:

Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the U.S. month/daydate format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representativessupported the designation of Pi Day.[2]

As a reminder, all $2 patterns will go up to $2.95 in April, so if you’re looking to stock up on any of my $2 blocks, save some $$ and buy now!

Want more? The three block set, Peace, Love & Pi is just $6!

TTMT #251 – Machine Binding Tutorial

What I intended to be a short tutorial ended up being just under 17 minutes. I am very sorry about that, but I hope you’ll find something useful here and thus forgive the length.

As in all things handmade, this is the way I do it. I am in no way saying you have to do it my way. This tutorial was created specifically for a few of my TTMT friends that wanted to see how I personally bind a quilt when I want to do it entirely by machine.

The quilt shown is from my 2014 UFO list and is now done and ready to donate!

Here’s an update:

  1. HP Swap Quilt
  2. Vintage Quilt Top
  3. Churn Dash Quilt
  4. 10 Minute Block Quilt

Two Dollars in March

If you have visited my Craftsy shop, then you’ll know that the grand majority of the individual blocks I’ve designed and shared there are priced at $2. This has been the case since I first opened my shop.

My philosophy has always been to keep my prices as low as my little business can bear because I know what I myself, as a quilter and a shopper, think is a fair price.

It’s been several years now since I first started selling patterns and in order to keep up with the craziness that are PayPal fees, all $2 patterns will be going up to $2.95 in April. I do hope you’ll forgive me for this business necessity and I also hope that if there is a pattern (or patterns!) you’ve been thinking about getting, you’ll grab it now while it’s still $2!

The prices of entire sets will stay the same, so, as usual, buying patterns by the set will save you a significant amount.

Pretty Pretty Pinwheel

Pretty Pretty Pinwheel!
As I’ve been working my through tidying up my Free Pattern page, it occured to me that it has been some time since I’ve shared a free non-fandom pattern.
Well, we can’t have that, now can we?
Here is a sweet little pattern that I’ve dubbed Pretty Pretty Pinwheel.  I think you’ll find fun and easy to piece.
Once the units are made, it goes together like a four-patch. If you chain piece the similar units, you’ll find it goes even faster!

Download the 6 inch Pretty Pretty Pinwheel for free from Google Drive!

The pattern is three colors plus a background fabric. Each color is indicated by a different texture. To make it piecing easy, I just penned in where the colors go.

Paper Piecing Vintage: March

Ice Cream Bowl, March PPV Pattern

Hello, March!

I’ve continued to be thrilled with each and every Paper Piecing Vintage block photo that you all have shared. Thank you so much for joining me on this journey!

Today, we have the third installment in our Block of the Month: Ice Cream Bowl.

Ice Cream Bowl is a classic pineapple quilt block. The “bowl” comes from the color placement and the optical illusion that it creates.

Not only are pineapple blocks one of my all-time favorite quilt blocks, a smaller version of this block is my go-to pattern for teaching beginners!

As with all the blocks from PPVIce Cream Bowl is entirely paper pieced and both 6″ and 12″ patterns are included.

As a bonus this month, there is a simplified 6″ pattern included for those of you not wanting to piece quite so many pineapple leaves! Want to make it 12″? Just print, cut in fourths, copy at 200% then glue or tape together!

Here are a few helpful hints:

  • Pre-cut strips for the “leaves.” 1″ works great for the 12″ pineapple and the bonus 6″ block. 3/4″ is plenty for the 6″ version.
  • Once you get a few rounds out from the center, you can prepare all four “leaves” at once (shown above). Instead of stitching one line at a time, stitch one, pull thread a little out from your machine, turn the pattern, then stitch the next until you’ve finished all four!
  • If making the 6″ block, make your life much easier by trimming seam allowances to 1/8″. That will reduce bulk and make it easier to work with.
  • Enjoy!

Haven’t signed up for Paper Piecing Vintage yet? Registration for the entire year is just $12. That’s 12 patterns in two sizes (plus the occasional bonus, like this month!), entirely paper pieced for one awesome price! All patterns for the year so far are included when you download.

Be sure to stop back by the first of each month for the latest Paper Piecing Vintage block.  Join the Paper Piecing Vintage Facebook Group for exclusive content and to sew with friends! Share your Paper Piecing Vintage photos with the Sewhooked flickr group for a chance to win fun prizes all year long!
