It’s been a crazy Linus Connection-filled week for me! While our actual meeting isn’t until next weekend, I have spearheaded a yarn drive to help my favorite blanket charity. We have been in serious need of yarn donations and what better place to ask for help than my online friends?

Everyone that knits or crochets will, possibly grudgingly admit that we all have balls, skeins and hanks of yarn that we are never going to use. That yarn taking up space? We can use it! The Linus Connection needs 100% acrylic washable yarn to make our child-friendly hypo-allergenic blankets for kids in need in Central Texas.

Have yarn? Drop me an email and I’ll send you my mailing address!

Assembly line! Prepping 5 tops to #fmq. I made most of these at Retreat in March from orphan blocks. They will all go to #TheLinusConnection. #blanketcharity

My basting mojo was high yesterday! I paired five orphan block quilt with backs and batting and then basted them all! One is quilted with four more to go! Each and every one of these will go to The Linus Connection when complete and a couple of these will be great big check marks on my 2014 UFO completion list!

A special shout out to Sarah from Houston. All of the batting used for these quilts came from her donation!

More #yarn and #crochet goodness, this time from Sarah in Houston. Thank you Sarah! #TheLinusConnection #blanketcharity

Yarn donations are coming in! Yarny goodness from Sarah in Houston!

Yarn Donation for The Linus Connection
Pretties from my dear friend Amber. This is the second box of yarn she’s sent!

Donation for The Linus Connection from Liza
Here’s another wonderful donation from Liza! Yarn and blankets and granny squares, oh my!

Charity Project of Doom

There’s a VERY special Project (of Doom!) going on over on Fandom In Stitches. It’s this week only, so if you’re a quilter, please be sure to check it out!

Rose!

Rose came out of hiding to visit us downstairs earlier this week. She’s coming out of her shell little by little. The poor sweetie lived a long time in a shelter’s kennel, and all the space she has access to now is a bit overwhelming. We’ve been using a Feliway diffuser, which seems to be making all the difference!

How can evil be so cute? And Cats, just because.

Two #Cthulhu are better than one! #crochetHappy Saturday!

Yesterday, I crocheted the dark green Cthulhu you see her for my hubby to take to work.

Baby C has lived in on his bedside table for quite a few years now and he really wanted another to geek up his desk at work, so I obliged. Big C was relatively fast to make and just so cute! Baby C was Caron Simply Soft, and Big C was made from worsted acrylic. It was a cake of yarn, so I’m not sure what brand, could have been Bernat.

The free pattern is here.

Hanging out with Rose. #sheltercat #rescuekitty #catsofinstagram

Our new baby, Rose, is doing well. She is still mostly hiding, but I can coax her out with treats and when I do, she is so, so sweet and snuggly. For some reason, some loves my big toes and will lay in my lap with her paws on either side of one toe, like she’s holding on to it. That’s a new one on me!

She has met both Merlin and Marie, and while there had been very mild hissing, there was an initial 5 seconds of tail poufing and that was it. M & M have pretty much ignored her since becoming aware of her existence. I think once she comes out of my bedroom, they will take more interest. The door has been wide open for three days, but Rose hasn’t ventured past the door yet. I carried her to the top of the stairs and she was pretty much scared silly, so I put her down and she dashed back under my bed.

Merlin in a sunbeam.
This is Merlin in a sunbeam, just because. At 16 1/2, he’s the old man of the house now. He’s had a few health issues recently, but as my wonderful vet said, he’s doing pretty good for a guy his age.

marie face
Our beautiful Marie is no longer the baby of the house, but the sassy lady. She’s very curious about Rose and I have a feeling that once the Miss R settles in, they will be excellent playmates.

Paper Piecing Vintage: April

Paper Piecing Vintage - April

Welcome April and today’s pattern, Rambling Maid …and that’s no joke!

Rambling Maid is inspired by the classic quilt block Old Maid’s Ramble.

This is a young, updated and entirely paper pieced version and I don’t thinks she’s too worried about matrimony, hence, Rambling Maid!

As with all the blocks from PPV, Rambling Maid is entirely paper pieced and both 6″ and 12″ patterns are included.

Paper Piecing Vintage - April

Rambling Maid, by Jennifer Ofenstein (sewhooked.com)

Already registered? Download your updated BOM file now!

Like many of the PPV blocks, the pieces for Rambling Maid are easy to pre-cut with a little measuring before you start.

Save some time by following these bonus directions for the 12″ block:

  • Big background triangles = 2 – 6″ squares, cut in half on the diagonal (makes 4 triangles)
  • Outside corners = 2 – 5″ squares, cut in half on the diagonal (makes 4 triangles)
  • Center = 3 1/2″ square
  • Flying Geese = 10 – 3″ squares, cut in half on the diagonal (makes 20 triangles)
  • Flying Geese bodies = 2 of each color: 2 – 4 1/2″ squares, cut in half on the diagonal (makes 8 triangles, 4 in each color)
  • Have fun!

Paper Piecing Vintage Signature Block
April is my birthday month and I have a very special favor to ask! All Paper Piecing Vintage Participants are cordially invited to share a 6″ signature block for the Paper Piecing Vintage Signature Quilt! Use fabric leftover from your PPV quilt and then just follow the directions in the pattern.

This is a very special side project to commemorate your participation in the PPV BOM. If you participated in The Project of Doom or There and Back Again, then you know that Signature Quilts are near and dear to my heart and are my favorite way to commemorate projects like this!

See the Project of Doom Signature Quilt.

Haven’t signed up for Paper Piecing Vintage yet? Registration for the entire year is just $12. That’s 12 patterns in two sizes (plus the occasional bonus, like this month!), entirely paper pieced for one awesome price! All patterns for the year so far are included when you download.

Be sure to stop back by the first of each month for the latest Paper Piecing Vintage block.

I’m around to answer questions, there are special, Facebook-only bonuses and lots of wonderful new quilting friends just waiting to meet you!

Rose!
For those of you anxiously awaiting the name of our newest furry family member, I’d like to introduce Rose! Her name is inspired by four of our family’s favorite fandoms: The Lord of the Rings (Samwise’s wife, Rose Cotton), Harry Potter (Rose Weasley), Doctor Who (Rose Tyler), and Homestuck (Rose Lalonde). We’ve pretty much covered all bases for all two-legged family members! Also, and most importantly, she just looks like a Rose. 🙂
See you tomorrow with Paper Piecing Vintage: April!

Love is in the air!

The newest member of our family! 1 1/2 year old girl, siamese with orange tabby markings. She is fantastically sweet and she snuggles! Still deciding on her name. She met Merlin and Marie through the carrier and no hissing, which is a minor miracle.

Meet the newest member of our family!

She’s approximately 1 1/2 years old and is Siamese with orange tabby markings (what a perfect mix!).

She was at my vet’s office waiting for adoption. When I asked about her, the wonderful girls there told me she didn’t have a name and she’d been very blue since she’d been there, but was very friendly and snuggly when held. The very first thing she did when I met her was to tuck her head under my chin and right into my neck. Tears sprang right into my eyes. I haven’t been chin-tucked since right before we said goodbye to Tackett.

She met Merlin and Marie through the carrier and no hissing, which is a minor miracle. She’s currently hanging out in our bathroom until she gets used to us and is here long enough not to smell “other” to M & M.

She doesn’t have a name yet, but I have an idea.

Happy Friday!
