Fabric Friday

Fabric Friday March 18, 2011

Last weekend, some friends and I visited Dallas for the Quilter’s Guild of DallasQuilt Celebration 2011. It was a fun time full of wonderful vendors (fabric, fabric, fabric!) and gorgeous quilts.

The lovely batik you see above is a fat quarter that I found at one of the plethora of vendors we visited. I did buy more, but I think this one is especially worth sharing. I just love all the different stars!

I, of course, took oodles of photos at the quilt show. There isn’t a photo of every quilt, but I did get pictures of the ones I found interesting or especially striking. Sometimes it was just the fabric combinations that caught my eye. You can see all the photos I took in Dallas here.

Tomorrow, I’ll be at the monthly meeting for The Linus Connection. Stop by if you’re in town!

Happy quilting everyone, and have a great weekend!

Fabric Friday of Fabulous

Fabric Friday

This is one of those fabrics that I just fell in love with without any clue what I might do with it. I ended up using it to it make a pillowcase for myself which makes me feel fabulous when I sleep! Most recently, it was featured in Week 7’s Project of Doom block (Mystery quilt spoiler alert!). After a couple of comments about the gorgeous fabric seen in the block, I thought I’d feature the fabric itself. It’s from Clothworks, though I don’t know the line. The black on blue just makes me happy!

Happy crafting!

Fabric Friday – Harry, Harry Everywhere!

Jan 21 Fabric Friday

This week, the Harry Potter fabric fairy visited me and I acquired approximately 20 yards of out of print Harry Potter fabric*. I’m still amazed by this great good fortune and fully plan to share the love. If you’re participating in the Project of Doom, you will see HP fabric in the monthly prize drawing!

Fabric Friday – BFF

fabric friday

Today’s Fabric Friday offering was a gift from my best friend, Jewells, for Christmas. She picked this up at a Japanese festival in Albuquerque. Isn’t it fun?

Tackett is a quilter

A totally non-related photo of my cat, Tackett, helping me quilt. He’s adopted my nine-patch project as his own and had decided I’d been quilting on it long enough! Despite his “help,” I only have about 8 more nine-patch blocks to quilt. Of course, then there is trimming and binding!

Have a very happy Friday and a great weekend! I’ll be at The Linus Connection’s monthly meeting in Round Rock tomorrow. If you’re in the area, stop by and say hello!

Fabric Friday

Fabric Friday

One of the weaknesses I’ve acquired over the last couple of years is for vintage flour sacking.  Part of the reason for this new found love has a lot to do with inheriting quilt tops and blocks from my grandmother. Grannie’s 9-Patch is a work-in-progress, currently on my machine being quilted. Grannie’s Trunk Quilt was finished earlier this year and returned to my mom, who now lives with my dad in her mother’s, my grandmother’s, house.

I’ve been acquiring more flour sacking in bits and pieces and I think I will eventually create a sampler quilt using these fabrics. It’s something I’ve had on my mind to do for quite some time and I can’t think of a more  appropriate fabric choice!

Fabric Friday – The Treasure Chest

Fabric Friday

When I first started paper piecing and had very little stash, an amazing woman named Clare gave me a huge box of scrap fabrics. They were the kind of things many quilters would throw away as being too small to be useful.

It was a real gift to me.

A great deal of my first Harry Potter quilt was made out of fabrics from Clare’s generosity…

The long and the short of this Fabric Friday? Never underestimate the gift of scraps! I share them whenever I can, and gladly accept them from friends that would like to clean theirs out. And, of course, I always have my Treasure Chest to dive into whenever I need a tiny piece of just the right fabric!
