Lily – 3 Years Later

Lily - Three Years Later

This Lily, my sister and her hubby’s sweet kitty.

You may remember Lily from our big fundraiser from November 2011. She was rescued by Stephanie & Richard and she was obviously injured.

The vet discovered Lily had been shot and that she needed to have her leg amputated. It was an expensive procedure, but she needed it to save her life, and with the help of the online community, we raised enough money to cover the cost. Many, many people shared generously.

Lily - Three Years Later

She’s doing fantastically now and is Queen Kitty of the house with a brother kitty (Owen) and sister kitty (Miranda) in the house.

Thanks to Richard for the photos of Lily and to Michelle Thompson for reminding me that I hadn’t shared an update for a while!

Read all about Lily’s journey.

DIY Kitty Vending Machine

We’re a bit busy around here this week getting ready for back to school and all the things it entails, but I do have one small, fun thing to share: 10 seconds of cat video!

This is our newest family member, Rose (adopted at the end of March this year), fetching a treat for herself. She gets treats every day to help with her shedding, and she can gobble up her entire ration in about 2 seconds and come out wanting more!

I found this on Pinterest and unlike most projects I’ve pinned, I actually made this one! Rose is a treat gobbler, so we thought anything that would slow her down would be a good thing.

I was able to find a blog that mentioned the craft, but not one that credits who came up with it.

This month, ALL photos of projects made from Sewhooked patterns, including Paper Piecing Vintage, shared with the Sewhooked flickr group will be entered to win a copy of Jack Leaves The Light On!

Have a great weekend! I’ll be back full-swing soon!

Achieve!

One Achievement Hunter cushion, ready to live in the dorm! Both of my kids and the hubby are big fans of all things Rooster Teeth and I mentioned recently that I worked on some cosplay stuff for my two teenagers for RTX.

My daughter really wanted an Achievement Hunter cushion to take back to school when she moves into the dorm for her second year at university this fall and I had a pillow form just waiting, so yesterday, I knuckled down and got it done! Achievement Hunter Cushion in progress I started by trying to figure this out using my favorite method of paper piecing. After about 20 minutes, it was quite clear that it would take me much longer to design it than it would to stitch it.

Finally, I threw in the proverbial towel and decided to go outside of my comfort zone and try applique.

First, I printed the Achievement Hunter symbol on the paper side of lightweight fusible webbing. I ironed that on to the green fabric and then very, very carefully cut out the shapes I needed, being careful to preserve the negative space.

I ironed the star on first, and then used the negative space pieces so I could get the circle places correct. Then, I ironed the whole shebang. So far, so good! After ironing, I stitched around with monofilament thread for extra security. I used a tear-away stabilizer on the back, which really helped keep things nice and flat while stitching.

The cushion cover was completed using an envelope style (two hemmed piecing overlap on the back) and then inserting a pre-made pillow form. Made with a 16″ pillow form. The center block is 12″ (12 1/2″ with seam allowance) and the green border are 2″ (2 1/2″).

I am happy and the daughter is VERY happy, so yay!

Star Trek stitch in progress

Sneak Peek! Coming next week – my offering for The Summer of Stitching: Star Trek week!

Marie has been supervising my sewing today. She's a task master! #cat #kitty Marie was very helpful while I was sewing yesterday. She hung out in her window perch and made sure I stayed on task! Rosie-Posey! Rose isn’t interested in sewing just yet, but she’s still darn cute, so I had to share a photo of her pretty face.

Love is in the air!

The newest member of our family! 1 1/2 year old girl, siamese with orange tabby markings. She is fantastically sweet and she snuggles! Still deciding on her name. She met Merlin and Marie through the carrier and no hissing, which is a minor miracle.

Meet the newest member of our family!

She’s approximately 1 1/2 years old and is Siamese with orange tabby markings (what a perfect mix!).

She was at my vet’s office waiting for adoption. When I asked about her, the wonderful girls there told me she didn’t have a name and she’d been very blue since she’d been there, but was very friendly and snuggly when held. The very first thing she did when I met her was to tuck her head under my chin and right into my neck. Tears sprang right into my eyes. I haven’t been chin-tucked since right before we said goodbye to Tackett.

She met Merlin and Marie through the carrier and no hissing, which is a minor miracle. She’s currently hanging out in our bathroom until she gets used to us and is here long enough not to smell “other” to M & M.

She doesn’t have a name yet, but I have an idea.

Happy Friday!

NOT cancer!

Reading with Tackett

Just got back from the vet…and it’s NOT cancer!

*throws confetti*

Tackett has lymphoplasmacytic inflammation of the liver. He will continue to need treatment, but the prognosis at this point is good. We go back in a month for more blood tests to see if his liver is functioning more normally and then we’ll go from there.

THANK YOU for your love and support through the stress my family and I have been under.

*hugs you all*

*hugs Tackett*

In case you missed it, this is Tabby Face, a free pattern from me to you as a special thank you for all your love and support. Read more about it here.

Use coupon code TACKETT right here on Sewhooked and in my Etsy Shop for 25% off your total order during the month of August. This special coupon has been created as a fundraiser for my beloved and sick kitty, Tackett. Tackett is a regular visitor to Talk To Me Tuesday and even has his own Facebookpage. The great majority of the patterns I’ve designed have come into life with Tackett sitting in my lap or on my feet.

Have you made patterns or projects from Sewhooked? I would love to see!  Add them to the Sewhooked flickr group for a chance to be featured on my blog!
