In a Castle is a simple, fun layout designed especially to feature 5″ (finished) quilt blocks, and is the newest addition to my pattern Shop!

Use your favorite paper pieced patterns, applique or fussy cut fabrics to create a personalized castle for someone special.

I’ve tried it a couple of different ways now and my absolute favorite combination so far is the one shown above, In A Castle + Fairy Tale Femmes.

And, because I just want to…a close up of the quilting on my castle. 🙂

In A Castle

In a Castle with plain windows…still cute!

I can just imagine this with witches and wizards in the windows, a la Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends!

In A Castle with fussy cut fabrics

Here it is with a little fussy cutting. I think this one will be donated to The Linus Connection once I have it all quilted. I love how whimsical the different fabrics look!

See you tomorrow for TTMT and a little 12 for 2012!

Ready To Play!

Ready To Play - Nick
Ready To Play - Dean Ready To Play - Alex
Nick, Dean, Alex

Just to clear the air, this is not the big secret. That’s coming soon…but not today!

Since I first shared All Dolled Up back in January, Ready to Play! has been on my mind.

If I was going to make little girl dresses, obviously I needed some boy clothes, too!

Meet Nick, Dean and Alex, named, slyly, after three of my favorite people. They know who they are. 😉

Ready to Play 6 x 6 versions

Here’s how it works?

There are three paper pieced patterns in two sizes each:

  • 3 – 6″x6″ (6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ unfinished) patterns
  • 3 – 9″x9″ (9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ unfinished) patterns

Like Julia, Catherine and Amber from All Dolled Up, the patterns from Ready To Play! not only come in two sizes (6″ x 6″ and 6″ x 9″) but the tops and bottoms are interchangeable. That makes 18 total outfit variations all in one pattern set!

Ready To Play patterns are interchangeable!

This super fun, super simple pattern set is available right now as an instant download PDF right now through The Sewhooked Shop, powered by e-junkie, for safe and secure PayPal payments.

Ready To Play 6 x 9 versions

Now I have the urge to shout, “But wait! There’s more!”

Not only can you swap Ready To Play! patterns with each other,  you can also swap them with All Dolled Up for even more pattern combinations…how fun is that?!

Mix and match All Dolled Up & Ready To Play!

I’ve had a blast creating these tiny outfits, and I hope you enjoy them, too!

Selling my patterns is what enables me to keep Sewhooked and Fandom In Stitches running, as well as allowing me to be a full-time crafter/quilter, something I’d very much like to continue doing.  Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support of my work!

Reminder: Use coupon code QUILTMYPHONE in the Sewhooked Shop to receive the Floating Mariner instant download PDF pattern for half price as an instant PDF download with PayPal payment – completely secure shopping through E-junkie.  This price is only good right here on Sewhooked during the month of February.

Not into blue & lavender? Try a different color!

Floating Mariner Table Runner

The Floating Mariner table runner is made with four Floating Mariner blocks plus 4 extra 3″ units used as corner stones.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 3

This one makes me think of fireworks! Red, White & Blue Floating Mariner made with 16 blocks plus 4 3″ units as cornerstones.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 2

I think this is my favorite of all the layouts I played with. Alternate Floating Mariner colorings combined.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 5

This one is totally different, putting Floating Mariner on point and leaving out the small corner pieces. Fun!

These layouts were created using Electric Quilt 7.

Floating Mariner is my original design.

Sharing new ideas and colors isn’t the only way I want to celebrate! Now until February 29, you can get Floating Mariner for half price.

On Craftsy and Revisiting an Old Favorite

My Kitchen Window

My Kitchen Window, now available through Craftsy!

I’ve spent quite a bit of time the last couple of days enjoy the creative bounty that is Craftsy! After lurking for months, I finally dived in and joined up.

And what a wonderful world it is!

I am in the process of making all of my shop patterns, as well as select free patterns, available as PDF instant download through my spiffy new Craftsy shop. Crafts makes for safe, simple shopping from a variety of independence artisans.

While adding patterns to Craftsy, I have been revisiting many old friends.

My Kitchen Window is one of my oldest paper pieced designs, and it was the first pattern I re-drafted when I started working on patterns to sell.

The original was designed many years ago for my mother-in-law, Carol, based on a piece of stained glass she made for us when we first moved to Austin.

Carol's Stained Glass Wall Hanging

The original piece was early days in my designing career. The revamped pattern is much, much simpler and easier to piece!

Florist Marble Window Surround
The inspiration.

While posting this pattern today, I realized the pattern could use a  few updates. Since the original pattern was designed entirely in Photoshop, I decided to play with it in EQ7 and see what I could do with different fabrics.

My Kitchen Window

The first one uses the same color scheme as the actual quilt and stained glass.

My Kitchen Window

How fun is it in blue and yellow? I might have to make this one!

My Kitchen Window

I already want to call this one clown kitchen, because, WOW, those are some wild colors together. Fun, but wild!

All Dolled Up Pattern Set

Oh my, have I ever been busy!

Earlier this week, a message dropped in my inbox from Ann-Marie S., asking about paper pieced dress patterns. She wants to turn her daughters’ toddler dresses into quilt blocks and was looking for patterns to help her do that.

Well, how could I resist such an adorable request?

In exchange for her idea, Ann-Marie received a free copy of this fantastically fun set of patterns, which I have dubbed All Dolled Up.

Here’s how it works:

There are three paper pieced patterns in two sizes each:

  • 3 – 6″x6″ (6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ unfinished) patterns
  • 3 – 9″x9″ (9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ unfinished) patterns

The tops and bottoms are interchangeable with blocks of their own size, which gives you 18 total dress variations!

This super fun, super simple pattern set is available right now as an instant download PDF right now through The Sewhooked Shop, powered by e-junkie, for safe and secure PayPal payments.

All Dolled Up

There are three basic patterns; Julia, Catherine and Amber. The top from each dress can be paired with the skirts from the other two dresses, giving you nine different dresses!

All Dolled Up

Each pattern is also printable as a 6″ x 9″ (6 1/2″ x 9 1/2″) pattern, for a more “grown-up” effect!

All Dolled Up

Confused? Here’s an easy chart to get you on your way! The top row shows the base patterns: Julia, Catherine and Amber. The next two rows show each tops with a different skirt. For example, J+C = Julia (top) + Catherine (skirt). Easy!

I was recently delighted when the gals over at Quilt Inspiration asked permission to post Floating Mariner on their site as part of their Winter Stars series.

I might have squeed a little. 😉

That post went up today, and I was thrilled to see my work there as well as touched by their kind words.

Let’s Talk Turkey

Turkey Talk from Sewhooked

It’s time to talk turkey, specifically about Turkey Talk!

So, there’s this idea I’ve had for a long, long time. It didn’t really start to take shape until after I learned to embroider for The Project of Doom. Before that time, the design was never quite right.

And then, inspiration!

My turkey was too quiet.

It was simple. He just needed a few words.

Words are a miraculous thing. Once added, I couldn’t wait to get this wall hanging made to share with you!

Even Sweeter Sue

002

by Midge

I’ve been what you might call a little busy here lately, and I’m feeling the stress of Too Much To Do. While I love being busy, it can be too much sometimes, even for me.

Enter flickr.

When I saw Midge’s Sweet Sue quilt top over in the Sewhooked flickr grouop, it was a rush of pure happiness! I love that she made the block into a quilt top and used such fun fabrics to do it.

That’s what this post is for today, just to say thank you to everyone that has made projects from my patterns. You give me joy and inspiration and the drive to keep designing.

Fairy Tale Femmes

Fairy Tale Femmes

Fairy Tale Femmes

It took me by surprise to realize how long it’s been since I’ve shared a new pattern from the Sewhooked Shop!

These lovelies are my own interpretation of some of Fairy Land’s most popular pretty ladies: Rapunzel, letting down her hair; Little Red Riding Hood, off to visit Grandma; Snow White, contemplating the poisoned apple; The Princess and the Pea, trying to get comfy; A Little Mermaid, dreaming of a human Prince; and Cinderella, fleeing at midnight.

Just a reminder, in honor of my participation in the Quilting Gallery’s Celebrate Christmas Quilt-Along, right now through November 1, 2011 get  Holly Jolly as an instant PDF download pattern for half price using coupon code CELEBRATE or get 10% of your total Sewhooked instant download purchase instead with coupon code QUILTOBER!
