Rose!
For those of you anxiously awaiting the name of our newest furry family member, I’d like to introduce Rose! Her name is inspired by four of our family’s favorite fandoms: The Lord of the Rings (Samwise’s wife, Rose Cotton), Harry Potter (Rose Weasley), Doctor Who (Rose Tyler), and Homestuck (Rose Lalonde). We’ve pretty much covered all bases for all two-legged family members! Also, and most importantly, she just looks like a Rose. 🙂
See you tomorrow with Paper Piecing Vintage: April!

2013 Finishes and other Fabulous Things

Vacation 2013

After all the UFO shenanigans going on around here, I really wanted to share some of the 2013 things that happened completely apart from my ever-growing to do list.

It was a big year filled with lots of projects, oodles of new patterns, vacation, graduation, college and the loss of a special furry loved one.

Here are a few photos to share some of my 2013 with you!

Doctor Who Quilt 2013

In 2013, I organized and designed for The Doctor Who Quilt Along on Fandom in Stitches.

This is the Doctor Who quilt I made for my daughter to take to college. This project was a balm to my aching mommy heart.

Doctor Who TARDIS pillow and Doctor Who Stitch Along Quilt

TARDIS pillow to go with! Naturally.

Agatha Christie quilt

Agatha Christie quilt for my best girlfriend, Jewells.

Eli's T-Shirt Quilt
Eli’s T-shirt quilt. No blog post here because I was so secretive about this, I forgot to write anything about it! I did, however, talk about it in this video.

Another one for Linus. #crochet

Bonnet

Baby gift for my friend Cat’s baby girl, Tara. Free pattern here.

Bibs for Cat's B3

I designed and published more patterns online last year than I think I ever have before. I won’t even try to post them all here because, woah!really, but you can get a pretty good idea by visiting Craftsy.

Tackett, 1997 - 2013

Last, but not least, a bittersweet end. We said goodbye to Tackett, the TTMT kitty, in June.  He was my best furry friend and I miss him dearly.

There’s nothing quite as fantastic as popping over my flickr group and seeing new photos made from Sewhooked patterns! I just love sewtobed’s mug rug, made by combining Sweet Sue Tops the Tree and Santa’s Helper (from Holly Jolly) ! It’s absolutely inspired and made my day to see it!

Marjon Savelsberg has also been super busy and has posted lots of new Christmas blocks, including a super sweet original design for a stack of gifts. I love the way she’s using a variety of patterns and I can’t wait to see what is sure to be a very festive quilt!

There’s Always Room for flickr

Before I share the awesome goodies that have been popping up over in the flickr group, I have to tell you about the last couple of days!

Before I knew about Lily, I was at home, my head stuffy as can be, feeling a bit sorry for myself that I didn’t have the energy to get up to my sewing room.

One phone call and a couple of text messages from my sister changed all that. There was a kitten, abandoned and injured that needed a home and medical attention. My sister and her husband would take her home.

I wanted to help, so I started brainstorming…what could we do to help this baby cat? How could we raise the kind of money it was going to take to get her on the road to wellness? My sister and her husband are doing the amazing part, taking her in and giving her a home and making sure she receives she love and care she needs.

I would help with the money, that’s the easy part. I checked my pockets, and a few moths fluttered out. So much for that.

Enter you guys…

Help Lily (post 1)

Lily Update (post 2)

Fortunately for me, I have AMAZING friends and am a part of online communities that always come through when needed. Since Saturday night, we have raised $465 of the $2000 Lily needs, which is simply AMAZING.

To help make it the rest of the way to our goal, my fandom friend suggested that I have an auction on Livejournal, something that happens from time to time when there’s a good cause or friend in need.  With their help, encouragement and participation, I’ve started Love For Lily:

Donations are still being accepted on Lily’s behalf, right at Love For Lily. As a bonus, fun handcrafted items, supplies and more are being offered for the highest donation “bid.”  As of this post, we have Harry Potter fabric, a custom crochet scarf, a Molly Weasley sweater (made to order), custom graphic logo design by a professional graphic artist, blown glass art, and custom fan art!

You can read all about how it works here.  Any funds earned past her actual surgery amount will be donated to the Humane Society of Williamson County, Lily’s new home county in here in Texas.

Subject change….fabulous flickr photos, all using patterns from Sewhooked!

Trim The tree ornaments...

Whenever I’m a little tired or feeling somewhat uninspired, I love to go to flickr and click through the zillion and two fantastically creative photos. What’s even extra fun for me is when I come across a project made with one of my patterns like Ruthiequilt’s Penguin ornament, made with one of the patterns from Holly Jolly.

Also floating around on flickr were a couple more Sweet Sue Tops The Tree. I love the variety of fabrics used for this block and how unique it makes each one!
