Love Potion Number Nine

The Ninth Doctor

The Ninth Doctor, designed by Aalia Zaman, stitched by me!

As the saying goes, you never forget your first doctor.

The Ninth Doctor was my first Doctor. I knew nothing, absolutely NOTHING about Doctor Who. My hubby has been a fan since he was a kid. He remembers back many, many Doctors. I was a newbie. And then came Nine. I’ve been hooked ever since!

The Ninth Doctor was designed for the Doctor Who Stitch Along over on Fandom In Stitches by the very talented stitching guru, Aalia Zaman. I love how she captures his personality with just a few stitches. Truly fantastic!

Doctor Tease

Last Stitch teaser!

These are my last few stitches in the Doctor Who Stitch Along. One of the best parts of being a designer on a project like this is getting to see all the wonderful designs before the Stitch Along ever started.

Oh my goodness, I can’t wait to show you all my blocks when the designs have all been revealed! Just four more weeks…

Aalia's Hufflepuff Themed Block

As a random aside, I HAVE to share this gorgeous quilt block made by Kristel incorporating my Fleur-de-li pattern. It’s Hufflepuff themed…and brilliant! The very lucky Aalia was the recipient of this gorgeous block.

Stitch, Stitch, Stitching All Summer Long!

The Eighth Doctor

I’m still happily stitching along on the Doctor Who Stitch Along. There are just a few more designs left, one of which will be mine. So much Doctory goodness is still coming, so keep an eye on Fandom In Stitches!

The Eighth Doctor was designed by TTMT Alum doxmuffinxc, aka, Jordan. I love the smile and wavy hair. Just…perfect. You can find the post about Eight here.

Project of Doom Mini

This lovely quilt top will be donated to The Linus Connection. Eight of the Project of Doom squares were donated for the PoD Charity project over on Fandom In Stitches.

The center block, below, was pieced by me using some funky Alexander Henry toile shared by my good friend Cat. She wanted to make a block, but just flat out doesn’t have time (two toddlers, a baby on the way and a full time engineer!), so I made it instead. 🙂

Project of Doom - Week 27 pattern

Today, I’m helping my 15 year old create a cloak for a costume he’s wearing later this week. He was doing some of his own sewing yesterday, but I’ve promised not to post pictures. Ah, teenagers!

Sunbonnet Sue Again – Monsters Afoot

stars

Here’s a summary: in late 2008, I was contracted to design patterns for a book.

I did.

Those patterns became Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends. The book was never published, the contract canceled by the publisher. In 2010, after a long healing process, I released the first batch of patterns from The Book That Never was.

For quite some time since I started selling my own patterns, I’ve been asked to break these sets up so that customers can buy just the characters they like most and not have to commit to an entire set.

Because I love you guys AND because I really do think it’s a great idea, this is my summer Sewhooked project!

I think need a snappy name for it.

Revisiting Sue?

More Magic?

Whatever you call it, there’s no denying I’ve avoided working on this for some time because part of the process for me is updating all the patterns, which brings back memories and that feeling of incompleteness I had following my book contract being canceled. Somehow, redesigning these patterns has been cathartic and RIGHT NOW feels like the time to do it. There will even be a few surprises along the way as I release never before published designs that weren’t originally included in any sets!

See all my Sunbonnet Sue Patterns here

The book version of these patterns were all shades of one color when printed because that’s what the publisher wanted. The new, updated versions are full color, updated to match my current style and, I think, are easier to follow.

Each set is being updated and each individual pattern, for the first time ever, will be available on Craftsy for just $2 each.

Monster Madness is the first updated set. If you’ve previously purchased Monster Madness and would like a copy of the updated set, please forward your receipt to sewhooked@gmail.com and I’d be happy to email you a copy of the new version. If you purchased on Craftsy, the pattern in your library will be automatically updated.

Thank you for joining on this journey down memory lane. I’m well into updating the next set of Sue’s friends and hope to have them ready for you by next week.

Have you made these or other patterns designed by me? I’d love to see them in the Sewhooked Flickr group!

Doctor, Doctor

The Sixth Doctor

Wow, week 6 of the Doctor Who Stitch Along! How did it roll around so fast?

Oh, right. End of the school year. Graduation. Vacation. AND I gave away a Harry Potter quilt.

Time flies when you’re busy!

Stitching The Doctor has been a very zen experience for me. For some reason, I have gravitated towards backstitching and I’ve very much enjoyed sitting in the evening stitch, stitch, stitching away.

The Sixth Doctor, who I designed for the SAL, is the obvious exception for backstitching. French knots, and lots of! Mmm, texture!

I’ve been playing with the idea of adding additional sashing to each of my blocks, or possibly adding another block in between. This Doctor Who quilt will be for my daughter and she’d like to take it to college with her in the fall. I’d like it to be the right size for the super long twin bed that will be in her dorm room.  Fortunately, I still have a little time to decide which direction to go from here!

Now that The Doctor has had his day (Wednesday, of course!), it’s back to work for me. I am in the process of updating each pattern in my Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends Series. For the first time ever, I’ll be offering each block from every set individually, something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time! These will be available exclusively in my Craftsy shop.

Until next time!

TTMT #215 – Give it away, now!

In which I GIVE AWAY a Project of Doom quilt made by the Fandom In Stitches community!

Am I gonna tell you who the winner is? You’ve gotta watch to find out!

Our Harry Potter-themed quilt raised $778 for The Linus Connection of Central Texas! WOO!

HUGE thanks to each and every person that made blocks for this special quilt and for the smaller PoD we will be giving to The Linus Connection.

To those that donated, THANK YOU for your generosity. Your money will go towards buying blankets supplies to help create handmade blankets for children in crisis situations in Central Texas.
