TTMT #150 – Confessions of an Overachiever

Bear Paw (1/12) – Completed and gifted!

InuYasha Quilt (2/12) – in progress

New York Beauty (7/12 – July)  – in progress

I mentioned in today’s video that I tried several layouts before deciding on one. Here’s what I did!

New York Beauty

This is my July 12 for 2012, pushed up in the rotation because I thought it would make the ideal gift for a new baby in the family.  This is the quilt top, pieced with borders. It’ll have a happy back (shown in the video) and scrappy binding made from the leftover batiks.

New York Beauty

This is the layout I had originally planned on, but I decided I wanted something different.

New York Beauty

I liked this one a little more…

New York Beauty

…but finally decided one this one!

Now, to get this guy quilted and bound so it can go off to it’s new home!

One Little Turtle

Turtle

Executive decision! You need a free pattern today.

Specifically, a free turtle pattern!

>>> One Little Turtle <<<

5″ paper pieced

(5 1/2″ unfinished)

IMAG0273

I love turtles. There is just something about the way they look and move. They have always seemed serious and dignified to me.

I have a turtle niece named Frankie (above, sister to the famous Lily), and I myself have a small collection that includes hand-carved turtles, glass turtles, crochet ones, fabric ones and even some turtle jewelry. There’s even a possibility (a big one!) that I have a fair amount of turtle fabric in my stash!

One Little Turtle is an updated version of my original Turtle Pattern, still available on the Free Quilt Pattern page.

I hope you enjoy him!

Turkle The Turtle!

This is a turtle I made several years ago from of a vintage toy pattern. He’s made entirely out of scrap fabrics. I call him Turkle!

Turtle

How about a fun layout using One Little Turtle that I whipped up using EQ7 . Isn’t it fun?

Or, how about a table runner?

Ready To Play!

Ready To Play - Nick
Ready To Play - Dean Ready To Play - Alex
Nick, Dean, Alex

Just to clear the air, this is not the big secret. That’s coming soon…but not today!

Since I first shared All Dolled Up back in January, Ready to Play! has been on my mind.

If I was going to make little girl dresses, obviously I needed some boy clothes, too!

Meet Nick, Dean and Alex, named, slyly, after three of my favorite people. They know who they are. 😉

Ready to Play 6 x 6 versions

Here’s how it works?

There are three paper pieced patterns in two sizes each:

  • 3 – 6″x6″ (6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ unfinished) patterns
  • 3 – 9″x9″ (9 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ unfinished) patterns

Like Julia, Catherine and Amber from All Dolled Up, the patterns from Ready To Play! not only come in two sizes (6″ x 6″ and 6″ x 9″) but the tops and bottoms are interchangeable. That makes 18 total outfit variations all in one pattern set!

Ready To Play patterns are interchangeable!

This super fun, super simple pattern set is available right now as an instant download PDF right now through The Sewhooked Shop, powered by e-junkie, for safe and secure PayPal payments.

Ready To Play 6 x 9 versions

Now I have the urge to shout, “But wait! There’s more!”

Not only can you swap Ready To Play! patterns with each other,  you can also swap them with All Dolled Up for even more pattern combinations…how fun is that?!

Mix and match All Dolled Up & Ready To Play!

I’ve had a blast creating these tiny outfits, and I hope you enjoy them, too!

Selling my patterns is what enables me to keep Sewhooked and Fandom In Stitches running, as well as allowing me to be a full-time crafter/quilter, something I’d very much like to continue doing.  Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support of my work!

It’s awfully quiet in here…

Sneak Peak

You might have noticed in yesterday’s Talk To Me Tuesday that I didn’t actually show anything that I’m working on.

Ehem.

There’s a mighty fine reason for that. I’ve been working on something I can’t show off just yet. In fact, I will need the all-clear from someone else before I share it.

Is that vague enough for you?

This photo is a teeny tiny sneak peek.

That’s it…I really can’t say anything else!

Back to hand stitching a hanging sleeve.

Oh, oh, could that be a clue?!

I'm a Craftsy Designer

You can now get all my for-pay patterns via instant PDF download through Craftsy! They charge nothing, nada, zero for independent designers like me to post and sell their patterns. Having had an online store for almost two years now, let me tell you, free is not usually the way it works! It’s been hugely helpful for the teeny tiny Sewhooked budget, and if it continues to go well, there is a possibility that I will start selling my patterns exclusively through Craftsy.

Removing the Paper

Recently, I’ve been asked several times how I remove paper from my blocks. Back in January 2008, I made a video to show just that. This was pre-TTMT, which seems like an age ago.

This is the way I do it…if you have a different technique, I’d love to hear about it.

Enjoy this blast from my video past!

See all the Floating Mariner products right here!

To celebrate this fun and awesome happening, I’ve done a couple of things…

Floating Mariner

First, I’ve created new layouts and color schemes to inspire you, as well as updating the Floating Mariner pattern.

Floating Mariner Alternate Colors Floating Mariner Alternate Colors Floating Mariner Alternate Colors

Not into blue & lavender? Try a different color!

Floating Mariner Table Runner

The Floating Mariner table runner is made with four Floating Mariner blocks plus 4 extra 3″ units used as corner stones.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 1

Try mixing Floating Mariner with a traditional block and see what happens!

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 3

This one makes me think of fireworks! Red, White & Blue Floating Mariner made with 16 blocks plus 4 3″ units as cornerstones.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 2

I think this is my favorite of all the layouts I played with. Alternate Floating Mariner colorings combined.

Floating Mariner Quilt Layout 5

This one is totally different, putting Floating Mariner on point and leaving out the small corner pieces. Fun!

These layouts were created using Electric Quilt 7.

Floating Mariner is my original design.

Sharing new ideas and colors isn’t the only way I want to celebrate! Now until February 29, you can get Floating Mariner for half price.

Use coupon code QUILTMYPHONE in the Sewhooked Shop to receive the Floating Mariner instant download PDF pattern for half price as an instant PDF download with PayPal payment – completely secure shopping through E-junkie.  This price is only good right here on Sewhooked!

Yeah, you heard me…half price! That’s $3 for a 15″ block pattern that can be used individually or as part of a larger project!
