Tree Trimming Kit

Tree Trimming - Honey Bee Quilt Store Kit

I’m happy to share with you all that I will be participating in the Austin Area Quilt Guild’s 2011 Gift of Quilting! I will be representing Honey Bee Quilt Store and offering my Tree Trimming class as part of the program.

With the help of my friend Osie, who also works at Honey Bee, I put together this new color combination especially for The Gift of Quilting. As an added bonus, the kit is available not only to those participating in GoQ, but to anyone!

You can order online directly from Honey Bee or you can stop by the store to pick up your kit.

The $22 kit includes the Tree Trimming pattern, all the fabric to make the quilt top as well as the binding. All you need is batting and backing fabric!

A Little Haunted

A Little Haunted Wall Hanging
A Little Haunted

With a little help from the imagination of my creative and helpful kiddo, Gareth, I drafted this adorable, whimsical Halloween-inspired wall hanging. It would work great as is, which is to say as a wall hanging, or could be incorporated into another project.

It finishes 9 1/2″ x 12 1/2″, but would make a 9″ x 12″ block if used in a bigger project.

I must apologize to Gareth for not cleaning up the scan better before sharing it.  I asked what he thought of when I said “wonky haunted house,” and seriously, he sketched this in about 2 minutes!  He usually spends ages on his drawings and will probably not be pleased that I posted this sketch. In apology to Gareth, here is one of my favorites that he’s drawn and shared online.

I’ve done something with this pattern that I’ve not tried before.  Included are alternative pattern pieces/instructions for doing simplified versions of the windows. I was thinking if you had some awesome little print of owls or cats or something, they would be really cute fussy cut into the door and/or windows. I’m going to make an alternative version to show my class and hopefully not scare anyone away with the tiny pieces in the broken window.

A Little Haunted is now available in the Sewhooked Shop for just $8 as an instant PDF download with PayPal payment – completely secure shopping through E-junkie!

Quilting: Sweet Honey Bee

Dianne, owner of Honey Bee Dianne Ferguson, owner of Honey Bee Quilt Store with her Harry Potter blocks

Since the summer of this year, I have had the great pleasure of being the Paper Piecing instructor for Honey Bee Quilt Store in Austin, Texas.

What I didn’t expect was that not would Honey Bee embrace me and my paper piecing classes (which several of the employees have taken!), but both the store owner (Dianne, shown above) and Kerry (who I will get a photo of with her blocks!) would both work on Harry Potter quilts using both my patterns and Guest Designer patterns from sewhooked!  Every time one of them shows me their quilty progress, I get more excited about their future quilts. They’re both using gorgeous fabrics for their blocks and their stacks get a little taller each time I visit.

Tomorrow, I’m teaching Intro to Paper Piecing at Honey Bee to a full house!

Stop by the shop on December 6, 2009 at 1:00 pm for Open House to meet next session’s instructors, get a peek at the classes and sign up early before they fill up.  I’ll be there along with other instructors for questions and just to hang out and meet potential students!

My intro technique class and a new class, Paper Piecing + Curves (New York Beauty block) will be offered in the Spring. Many of the wonderful kits and projects offered at Honey Bee include paper piecing, so if you haven’t learned yet and are anywhere near the Austin area, join me for a fun technique class in the spring.

Paper Piecing  + Curves (New York Beauty Block) – Date TBA

For those of you that didn’t catch it earlier in the week, one of sewhooked’s own Guest Designers, Cat Magraith, was featured on the Honey Bee Blog after her visit here to the U.S. and some seriously quilty shopping at Honey Bee!
