Sunbonnet Sue Again – Monsters Afoot

stars

Here’s a summary: in late 2008, I was contracted to design patterns for a book.

I did.

Those patterns became Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends. The book was never published, the contract canceled by the publisher. In 2010, after a long healing process, I released the first batch of patterns from The Book That Never was.

For quite some time since I started selling my own patterns, I’ve been asked to break these sets up so that customers can buy just the characters they like most and not have to commit to an entire set.

Because I love you guys AND because I really do think it’s a great idea, this is my summer Sewhooked project!

I think need a snappy name for it.

Revisiting Sue?

More Magic?

Whatever you call it, there’s no denying I’ve avoided working on this for some time because part of the process for me is updating all the patterns, which brings back memories and that feeling of incompleteness I had following my book contract being canceled. Somehow, redesigning these patterns has been cathartic and RIGHT NOW feels like the time to do it. There will even be a few surprises along the way as I release never before published designs that weren’t originally included in any sets!

See all my Sunbonnet Sue Patterns here

The book version of these patterns were all shades of one color when printed because that’s what the publisher wanted. The new, updated versions are full color, updated to match my current style and, I think, are easier to follow.

Each set is being updated and each individual pattern, for the first time ever, will be available on Craftsy for just $2 each.

Monster Madness is the first updated set. If you’ve previously purchased Monster Madness and would like a copy of the updated set, please forward your receipt to sewhooked@gmail.com and I’d be happy to email you a copy of the new version. If you purchased on Craftsy, the pattern in your library will be automatically updated.

Thank you for joining on this journey down memory lane. I’m well into updating the next set of Sue’s friends and hope to have them ready for you by next week.

Have you made these or other patterns designed by me? I’d love to see them in the Sewhooked Flickr group!

Hey, hey fleur-de-lis!

pink and white fleur purple fleur  black and blue fleur

An email I received earlier in the week prompted me to pull out a pattern I had not yet posted to share with the paper piecing masses.

There’s something classic and lovely about a fleur-de-lis.

I love the simplicity of this block and how easily it could be combined with other patterns for a personalized project. Imagine it paired with hearts, or the Eiffel Tower….

6″ fleur-de-lis to paper piece, just $2 on Craftsy!

fleur de lis 12 inch

I love this version, which includes 2 – 6″ fleur-de-lis with 2 6″ squares to create a 12″ block.

fleur square purple

How about a simple wall hanging or quilt made using only purples?

Here’s another layout with purple. Why purple? I don’t know, it seemed the thing to do!

Same layout, different color!

Get the fleur-de-lis pattern, only $2 on Craftsy!

In the coming months, I will slowly be moving all my non-fandom patterns to my Craftsy shop and discontinuing my e-junkie store.

Craftsy‘s ability for members to save patterns to reprint at their leisure, as well as the feature that allows designers to update patterns and for members that have purchased or saved that pattern to be automatically notified of the update makes Craftsy ideal for sharing patterns online. If you don’t have a Craftsy membership already, I highly recommend it! Did I mention membership is free?!

I’m in the middle of a computer crisis today. My laptop had critical hard drive failure this weekend and I’m waiting for repair and to see if any of my data can be restored. I am usually faithful about backing up because of all the pictures, patterns and documents I produce. Unfortunately, and insanely, I have not backed up in several months which means if my data can’t be recovered, I will lose design work, photos and documents from those last few months. If it wasn’t shared either online for via email, I won’t have it. I can’t even begin to express how distressing the prospect is!

To detract from the stress, I’m diligently working on cleaning my studio, finishing some charity projects and pushing ahead with 12 for 2012. My August quilt top just needs borders and I’m about to pull September out of the bag.

Hopefully, the quilt therapy will keep me sane until I know what the damage is!

Tabby Face Block Lotto

The Tabby Face Block Lotto is another ray of sunshine. I’ve received quite a few messages and photos from you all sharing that you’ll have Tabby Faces in the mail this week. How can a slew of happy kitty faces not make me feel better?

And for everyone checking in to see how Tackett is doing, we have not really seen any change. He hasn’t lost weight, but he’s not gained any since the first couple of weeks of his treatment. He still seems chipper, though, so we remain hopeful.

Thanks for listening…see you for Talk To Me Tuesday! Tomorrow’s will be a little different since my computer is out of action…along with all my usual files!

To celebrate the Tabby Face Block Lotto, use coupon code TABBY in my Etsy shop to receive 10% off your total order during the month of September!

Fabric Friday and Finished Friends

Fabric Friday - 80 Fat Quarters

Every once in a while, I splurge a little. I honestly don’t do it often, which makes it all the more fun when I do!

After the awesome that was my Trunk Show in early May, I ordered a scrap bag of 80 fat quarters from Keepsake Quilting. It was a bit of a gamble since I had no idea what kind of fabrics I’d receive, but after the giant dent the Trunk Show  put in my stash, it seemed a fun risk to take!

I love variety, but most of all, I love having forgotten treasures in my stash that will lend the perfect oomph to a project. These beauties have been sorted by dominant color and filed away, to be rediscovered for projects future.

Ready To Play

How about revisiting some old friends?

Earlier today, I needed to share photos of Ready to Play (above) and All Dolled Up (below). Each one is a set of interchangeable block patterns, to piece into the quilt project of your choice.

All Dolled Up

I love how different each set came out by using totally different fabrics. Ready to Play has a bit of a shop window appearance and All Dolled Up, with the 30s fabrics, looks very soft and feminine.

Each block pattern set is $8 and can be purchased through the Sewhooked Shop (PDF patterns), Craftsy (PDF patterns) or Etsy (paper patterns).

Sewhooked 2012 Summer Challenge

The 2012 Summer Challenge is going on the entire month of June! It’s super simple, just make a project from one of my patterns or tutorials and share a photo with my flickr group. Full details and deadlines are here.

To celebrate the Sewhooked 2012 Summer Challenge, I am offering 10% off your total purchase from the Sewhooked Shop for the entire month of June. Starting right now, through midnight, July 1, use coupon code SUMMER2012. Offer valid here on Sewhooked and in my Etsy Shop. Not valid on Craftsy.
