Pi, $2 a Slice

Happy Pi Day!

Several years ago, I designed this spiffy block for my math-loving family to celebrate Pi Day, March 14. Originally part of the Peace, Love & Pi set, Pi also available individually as a $2 pattern for the rest of March.

From wikipedia:

Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is observed on March 14 (or 3/14 in the U.S. month/daydate format), since 3, 1, and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representativessupported the designation of Pi Day.[2]

As a reminder, all $2 patterns will go up to $2.95 in April, so if you’re looking to stock up on any of my $2 blocks, save some $$ and buy now!

Want more? The three block set, Peace, Love & Pi is just $6!

It’s bucketing down rain today in Austin, which is good news for us as we slowly climb out of severe drought. I’m hoping for a green spring and NO fires.

The rainy day has put our Saturday plans on the back burner. Instead, I’m going to spend my day cleaning and rearranging my sewing space. It’s time to purge things I don’t foresee myself using and tidy up those things I need easy access, too.

My cutting table is also a wibbly wobbly mess and I’m planning to swap it out with another table that will be re-purposed from another area of our house. Fingers crossed that it goes well and I’ll be back to stitching in a couple of days!

Stellar Stripes, quilted

Carol, the winner of the free PDF pattern from my Learning Center post earlier in the week, chose Stellar Stripes as her prize. Carol, I hope you enjoy and can’t wait to see your version!

Peace, Love, Pi

Peace, Love, Pi

During the craziness that was getting sewhooked.org and blog.sewooked.org consolidated into the Shiny New sewhooked.com, one of my newest designs, Peace, Love, Pi, slipped through the cracks of blog posting.

This spiffy new design was created to entertain my husband and son, both who love math and have great senses of humor. They love the design and once it’s quilted, it will quite possibly end up hanging in my husband’s office where he does magical things with computers all day long.

9 1/2″ X 21 1/2″

Includes 3 original

plus sashing instructions.

One of the best parts about this pattern is it’s construction. It’s super simple, with 5″ (5.5″ unfinished) paper pieced patterns and simple sashing.

paper piecing: Quilt For Your Inner Genius

Pi 5" paper pieced pattern!
5″ Pi pattern only on etsy

Living in a house full of incredibly smart people, it was only a matter of time until their interests started bleeding into my crafting.  There have been cross-overs before with all sorts of fandom paraphanelia, from Star Trek to X-Men.

Now, it’s math.

I mean really, who doesn’t need a paper pieced Pi?

Alright, alright, it was my 11 year old son’s idea!  Happy now?

And for the curious…

From Wikipedia:

Pi or π is a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle‘s circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space; this is the same value as the ratio of a circle’s area to the square of its radius. The symbol π was first proposed by the Welsh mathematician William Jones in 1706. It is approximately equal to 3.14159 in the usual decimal notation
