Two Dollars in March

If you have visited my Craftsy shop, then you’ll know that the grand majority of the individual blocks I’ve designed and shared there are priced at $2. This has been the case since I first opened my shop.

My philosophy has always been to keep my prices as low as my little business can bear because I know what I myself, as a quilter and a shopper, think is a fair price.

It’s been several years now since I first started selling patterns and in order to keep up with the craziness that are PayPal fees, all $2 patterns will be going up to $2.95 in April. I do hope you’ll forgive me for this business necessity and I also hope that if there is a pattern (or patterns!) you’ve been thinking about getting, you’ll grab it now while it’s still $2!

The prices of entire sets will stay the same, so, as usual, buying patterns by the set will save you a significant amount.

Bid for a Treasure!

Vintage Fan Quilt

In a continuing effort to help my kiddo with her college expenses, I’m selling some of my treasures.

One super special treasure is this vintage fan quilt. It’s hand pieced and hand quilted and estimated to have been made in the 1930s. It fell into my hands by chance and I’ve had it on display in my home ever since.

Vintage Fan Quilt

Because I could not decide on an asking price, it’s up for auction on ebay. The minimum bid is the absolute lowest I can take for it.

Bidding ends in just over 2 hours and I would love, love, love this to go to a good home with someone that would appreciate it!

It does have some age damage. If you’re interested, make sure you have a good look at all the photos in the listing before bidding.

Reminder! Pre-registration for Paper Piecing Vintage is now live!

Oh, lookie, free classes!

Please allow me to shout a bit about Craftsy here!

Craftsy Logo

There are two Craftsy classes that are FREE, today, right now that you guys have got to know about!

Like I said, these are FREE. All you need is a Craftsy account (also free!). Once you’ve got an account (and you can sign up using Facebook or by setting up a new account…sooooo easy!), just click on the links below and then “enroll” and the class is yours to watch anytime you want!

Seriously, how cool is that?!

The first (FREE!) class is Piece, Patch, Quilt: Basic Quiltmaking Skills. If you are a beginner and have been dying to learn to quilt but don’t have time and/or money to invest in a class, this is the perfect class for you. You learn simply everything you need to make your first quilt from beginning to end. That’s right. Prep, rotary cutting, piecing, the quilt sandwich, tying or piecing all the way to binding. For FREE. Seriously, why not? Even if you’ve done some quilting already, there’s always something to learn! Need I mention FREE again?!

The second class will teach you how to take Professional Family Portraits. How perfect a class is this for this time of year? ou will learn to wow everyone with professional quality pictures. I’ve already enrolled and plan to take full advantage of what this class has to offer. For years now, I’ve taken our family portraits myself with my camera’s timer and a tripod. I’m hoping to learn some new tips that will help make our pictures even more awesome! I’m especially excited because the instructor is Kirk Tuck, a commercial photographer based in Austin, Texas, which is where I live, too!

Go, sign up! Even if you don’t use them today, you never know when you might like to give them a whirl. If you’ve been thinking about trying an online class, trying a free class is definitely a good way to start. 🙂

AmysCreativeSide

Today is the LAST day to vote for your favorite quilts during the Blogger’s Quilt Festival! You’ll find my entries under Wall Hangings and Bed Quilts.

Anyway, that’s enough for me today! I just couldn’t let you miss these AWESOME FREE classes.

How about a fun new Halloween-themed table runner pattern? This set is SUPER easy to piece and crazy versatile!

Just need the blocks? Use them for whatever you like!

Want a quick table runner? Piece the three blocks, add borders as shown in the pattern and you’re good to go!

Jack Leaves The Light On

I shared a Jack-O-Lantern block in my video yesterday and mentioned that the pattern was coming soon.

How’s this for soon?!

I originally designed this fun piece for a magazine. They passed on the pattern and it’s been collecting dust in my sewing room ever since.

Jack Leaves The Light On
Tis the season for Trick-or-Treat and what better way to decorate than a fun table runner?

Jack Leaves The Light On Jack Leaves The Light On
Pattern includes two, full-color 8″ block patterns and instructions to create the table runner shown above.

Some Real Things

In an effort to 1) clean out my overflowing sample bins and 2) help my kiddo pay for her college expenses, I’m doing something I rarely do.

I’m selling stuff I made.

Patterns? Sure, I sell those all the time, and nothing gives me more pleasure than being able to share those with you.

There’s something just a little different about selling projects that I worked on with my hot little hands. Everything I work on evokes memories and feels like a little piece of me.

My kiddo is worth it and I have far more samples than I will ever, ever need. Most of these things are one of a kind and the grand majority of them were for The Book That Wasn’t. It feels good to share them with you and move on to new things!

These are the first few goodies I’ve got up for offer:

Tooth Fairy Door Hanger

Tooth Fairy Door Hanger

Dollar included…because why not?! I came up with this idea after the Tooth Fairy was constantly misplacing the pillow each of my kiddos used to put their lost teeth in.

Garden Fairy Tote

Garden Fairy Tote Bag

I seriously love this bag…click through to see the inside and back. Inspired by fairies…and fabric!

Saturday Morning Monster Movie Wall Hanging

Saturday Morning Monster Movie Wall Hanging

A combination of Monster Madness and Classic Films…love this piece. As a kid, I loved watching black and white monster movies on Saturday morninings.

Three Witches Log Cabin Table Runner

If Mrs. Weasley was going to have a table runner…

Sweet Skating Sue

She really is sweet…I loved quilting her, too!

Summer Sue Makeover Continues!

It’s September now, and while hints of autumn may be in the air other places in the world, in Austin it’s still hot and sticky and feels like summer!

It’s a good thing, too, because the Summer Sue Makeover to update Sunbonnet Sue’s Magical Friends is not quite done!

Today I bring you two updated sets from the Way Back files: Fanciful Fairies and Friendly Familiars. Both sets have been completely updated, and as with the previously updated set, each individual block is now available as a stand alone pattern exclusively from Craftsy!

How much do I love Sunbonnet Sue? She has her own page here on Sewhooked!

Fanciful Fairies includes 6 full color patterns of sweet fairies!

Tooth Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

My personal favorite is the Tooth Fairy. She’s a busy little lady!

Tulip Fairy (paper pieced), $2 on Craftsy

The Tulip Fairy always makes me think of my sister. Tulips are her favorite flower!

Rose Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Rose Fairy reminds you to take time for the sweet things in life.

Flower Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Flower Fairy is bringing a smile to a friend.

Fairy Godmother (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Everyone needs a Fairy Godmother!

Daisy Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Daisy Fairy is a close second for my favorite. I just love how she’s perched so sweetly!

Bonus Pattern! Water Fairy (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Water Fairy is a bonus pattern not included with the set. When I was originally drafting these patterns several years ago for a book that ended up not being published, she was an extra that didn’t make the cut. Here she is now, in her sweet glory!

Friendly Familiars (Paper Pieced Blocks) , $7 on Craftsy

If you have been around Sewhooked for any length of time, you know that I love whimsy and magic.  Friendly Familiars is one of the original sets of patterns that were destined for the book-that-wasn’t. I can’t imagine a little witch or wizard worth his (or her!) salt not enjoying the company of a magical creature!

Wizard with Toad (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

I always imagined this to be a little wizard with a toad he found in the garden. He also reminds me of one of my all time favorite Harry Potter characters, Neville Longbottom!

Wizard with Snake (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Snakes tend to be associated with evil. Bad boys need friends, too, right?

Wizard with Rat (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

The question that I ask myself about this pattern is what this Wizard is about to do. I’m voting for conjuring cheese for his rat!

Witch with Owl (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Owls are just magical by nature, aren’t they? This little witch is whispering secrets to her feathery friend!

Witch with Cat (paper pieced) , $2 on Craftsy

Cats are by far my own favorite magical creature, having had quite a few of my own over the years!

There are still two sets to be updated: Busy Bodies and Wand Wielders. They’re in progress and I hope to have them to you soon! After that, I hope to have some NEW Sues to share!

Quilts from 100 Blocks, Fall 2013

In case you missed it, I have a pattern in Quilts From Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Fall 2013 – Buy it on Etsy!

Adios Printed Patterns!

After several years of selling my patterns through a variety of sources, I’ve made the decision to phase out hard copy (printed) patterns.

The simple truth is that they just don’t sell very well. Most of my customers are internet-based and when you guys are ready for a pattern you want it right now and PDF patterns are the best way to do that.

I still have some hard copy stock left and I’ve decided instead of letting them collect dust, I’m going to take the month of September to clear them out!

ALL Sewhooked printed patterns are 1/2 price on ETSY, no coupon needed,  and will be gone after September 30.

As of October 1, all Sewhooked my patterns will be available exclusively as PDFs! Want PDFs now? The best place to shop Sewhooked is on Craftsy!
