My Favorite Things 2016!

My Favorite Things 2016 Block of the Month sewhooked.com

I’ve been teasing the 2016 Sewhooked project for some weeks now and I just can’t wait another day!

Beginning January 1, 2016 and each month for the rest of next year, I will be sharing My Favorite Things!

My Favorite Things will include 12 patterns to paper piece in both 6″ and 12″ as well as a number of bonus blocks to mix and match your own favorites.

On the first day of each month, you’ll have the opportunity to download that month’s pattern for free. After the first day, each pattern will be available for a small fee from my Craftsy Pattern Shop, with the entire block set available for sale by December.

I plan to include instructions for at least one possible layout to create a quilt from your blocks, but knowing me, I will have more than one by the time we get to December!

I hope you’ll join me in 2016 for what I hope will be a super fun event!

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Vol. 12 Blog Tour

Vol12-blog-tour-this-week-socialmedia

Welcome to my post for Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, vol. 12 Blog Tour!

I’m extra excited to share today’s patterns because it’s not only one of my favorite things I’ve shared with Quiltmaker, but it’s one of my favorite patterns that I’ve ever designed!

I had such fun creating this block and I hope you love it as much as I do!

Be sure to keep reading to the end to find out how to be entered to win today’s prize!

Special Delivery block by Jennifer Ofenstein, Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Vol. 12, 2016

Here it is: Special Delivery!

You’ll find this red-wearing fella and his sleigh full of presents on page 19 of Vol. 12.

See more of my Sunbonnet Sue designs.

Special Delivery block by Jennifer Ofenstein, Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Vol. 12, 2016 To add a to the fun, I embellished my block with hand embroidery (patterns included in the magazine).

How about a snowflake? Here in Austin, Texas, it’s likely to be the only snow I see this year!

I also had a lot of fun playing with Special Delivery and combining this block with some of my other designs to see what kind of fun quilt layouts I could come up with.

Here are two of my favorites:

Table Runner idea with Special Delivery and On, Dasher! by Jennifer Ofenstein

Here, Special Delivery meets my reindeer block, On, Dasher! for a fun Christmas-themed table runner.

Quilt idea with Special Delivery and On, Dasher! by Jennifer Ofenstein

This layout is a bit more ambitious, with the same number of blocks as the table runner, but with the reindeer set in an arc. I just love this idea! Imagine this with a fun snowflake print fabric or lovely hand embroidered embellishments like oodles of snowflakes and reins for the reindeer team!

On, Dasher! A paper pieced pattern by Jennifer Ofenstein

Like On, Dasher? You can find him in my Craftsy Pattern Shop!

Just like all of my patterns, Special Delivery and the above fun layouts were designed in EQ.

31 Days of Halloween – Nothing But Sincerity

31 Days of Halloween on sewhooked.com

A very happy Halloween my friends!

We made it, it’s the final day of 31 Days of Halloween!

Over the last month, we’ve stitched, pieced, cooked and prepared Halloween costumes! We’ve revisited old favorite crafts and discovered new ones. I hope that at least one of my Halloween projects caught your fancy and gave you something fun to work on during the month.

If you’d like to revisit our month of Halloween, simply scroll back through Sewhooked starting with this post or click the banner above for a summary of each day and links to all the Halloween goodness.

Thank you, thank you for sticking with me until the end!

I have one last Halloween-themed craft for you today. It’s  a little something to keep your hands busy while you enjoy watching Halloween movies and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.

Let’s start with this little clip from one of my all-time Halloween favorites, It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

I watched this Halloween gem when I was a child and then shared it with my own kids. It’s still a favorite in our house.

Nothing But Sincerity (Peanuts Stitch) by Jennifer Ofenstein

With Linus’ optimism about The Great Pumpkin in mind, I created a little hand embroidery pattern for you that I’m calling Nothing But Sincerity.

This sweet stitch is 7″ x 10″, perfect for a 12″ (12 1/2″ unfinished) block.

My version is entirely backstitched, but feel free to use any stitch you like.

Won’t it make a lovely pillow or addition to a Halloween quilt?

31 Days of Halloween – Potions Book

Happy Wednesday! We’re counting down the final few days of 31 Days of Halloween!

Today, I’m sharing an easy way to create your own potions book!

Potions Book

Printable Potions Book

recipes adapted from Recipe Goldmine

Magical Drafts & Potions contains seven simple recipes for the young witch or wizard.

Originally created way back in 2006 for the very same Craftster Swap as the Triwizard Tee, this easy peasy Printable Potions Book is simple to make with just a few ingredients.

See what I did there? 😉

To create your own copy, you’ll need a notebook or journal with removable pages small enough to run through your printer. The book I used had a tie that kept all the pages in and was close to standard printer paper size, making it easier to print the pages. Print the recipes on your pages (either one to a page or front and back, depending on how many sheets you have), insert them back in the book and you’re ready to go!

For a fancy touch, tear the outside cover sheet (shown, above) and decoupage on the front of the book.

Want something easier? Try printing, punching holes and popping in a binder or tying the pages together with raffia or twine.

You can also print the pages, and cut them down for a smaller version or you can get fancy pants and try Book Binding videos for more fun ideas.

Potion Book

Of course, my potions book has a Harry Potter theme. I mean, it be would, right?
