Lavender Temptation

Kenmore Sewing MachineI freaking love old sewing machines.

LOVE.

I have three vintage Singers, and have had as many as five at one time.

What? I gave two of them away…and they have all been unbelievable bargains I found at thrift shops.

I saw this lavender Kenmore beauty at Goodwill today, and boy did I want to buy it.

I really, really did.

It was missing it’s foot & foot screw as well as the bobbin casing, so I didn’t buy it. I promised myself no more machines unless they came with all their parts. That followed buying a machine with no power cord and no foot control…

For $20, though…SO tempting.

So tempting, in fact, I’m contemplating checking in again tomorrow, just to see if it’s still there.

Seriously, folks, a lavender sewing machine! It was even cooler in person…

What do you think? Should I break my promise to myself and “adopt” this little beauty?

DIY, like crafts, only bigger

UntitledI don’t have much to show for my last few days because I’ve been doing a little DIY!

The faucet above is in my kiddos’ bathroom. I installed an identical one in our half-bath downstairs.

Here it is on Amazon. I picked it up at my local Lowe’s for about half that price.

Not only did I update the yucky old cheap-o faucets that were in our house when we bought it way back in 1999 (why did I wait so long?!), but I also updated the water shut-offs and intake lines so they are now up to current code for our area.

Did I mention my fingers are sore? Ouch! Even the plumber’s putty under my nails was worth it. 😉

Yeah, DIY!

Souvenir Bag Bookmarks

souvenir bag bookmarks

Just a craft quicky for today!

My daughter came back from her super-fabulous trip to France with a stack of tiny bags from souvenir shops from buying postcards and small souvenirs. Instead of tossing the bags, or leaving them in a drawer to collect dust, we decided to turn them into bookmarks for bonus souvenirs!

We used a glue stick to attach different pieces of the bags together (fronts, backs, etc.) and I trimmed them to the size we wanted with the rotary cutter I keep for cutting paper (great for blades too dull for fabric!).

Then, I used my Scotch Thermal  Laminator and 5mm pouches to laminate the bookmarks. With 5″ x 7″ pouches, we were able to get laminate two at at time. I cut each one out using my rotary cutter. Super simple!

I love Sushi

Jess' I Love Sushi Quilt

Okay, that’s not entirely accurate. I don’t love sushi. I think it’s aesthetically lovely, but it does not go into my mouth.

Fortunately, the lovely Sonja Callaghan of Artisania has the perfect non-edible solution…a sushi quilt! I’m sure you remember Sonja from the Garden Party Blog Hop, where her Mason Jar Lanterns were a huge hit!

She’s turned her lovely iconic paper piecing style to the favorite food of many with the I love Sushi quilt pattern!

How about some details?

Big Cartel cover

The I Love Sushi Quilt finishes at 37″ x 43″ , and is a paper pieced quilt pattern. The PDF pattern is 20 pages long, and includes all pattern templates. The first 10 pages print out as a handy booklet, and includes basic paper piecing instructions, a glossary of terms, illustrated instructions and links to online tutorials. It was designed with beginners in mind, so it’s rated easy-moderate for novice quilters. It makes a yummy wall hanging, baby quilt, or small lap quilt. Retail Price $14.
