TTMT #404 – So Much Thread

I should have called this one “Sew Much Thread,” or maybe “Page Not Found.” Ah, the missed opportunities of naming my weekly videos!

Welcome back to another week of chatter from me about what I’m working on. I made a big leap in my 2017 To Do List, and it feels gooood!

I’m still working on my 2016 Report Card. It’ll be later than usual this year. We’ll definitely have to deduct a letter grade for that!

TTMT #403 -Let’s Get Started!

Today in Talk to Me Tuesday, I talk about the two events I’m running as well as my 2016 and 2017 To Do lists. Later this week, I’ll do a full report card complete with photos of what I finished (and didn’t!) in 2016.

PPV 2017 Quilt Along Block 1!

2017 quilt along.jpg

Welcome to the first post for the Paper Piecing Vintage Quilt Along (#PPV2017)!

A little explanation before we begin…

PPV was my 2014 Block of the Month. This project was inspired by old-fashioned, hand-pieced quilt blocks. Because I LOVE paper piecing, I couldn’t help but create my own versions of traditional patterns I love using my favorite technique.

Quilting along with us is easy! The Paper Piecing Vintage quilt pattern already exists, so you don’t have to anxiously await each pattern to be released.

We’re making this quilt together, one block at a time, as a group. We’ll be making two blocks a month. I’ll prompt you on the second and fourth Monday to remind you which block to work on next. With a little work and a little luck, we’ll have a finished quilt top by the end of June!

Get the completed quilt pattern (more info below) from CRAFTSY or ETSY for $10 (previously $12). If you already own this pattern, you are ready to go!

Want to connect with other quilters working on Paper Piecing Vintage? Join the Sewhooked Facebook Group for community, support & prizes! I’ll be there, as will my awesome pattern tester Amber and many friends of Sewhooked. We’ll answer your questions and nudge you along if you need it. Joining the group is not required to quilt along.

You’ve asked, and it’s happening…if you want to make just one or two blocks from the set, I will be releasing these patterns individually as we go. (Link to purchase Block 1 below.)

20141130_113839

The following is the January block (Block 1) made for my 1930’s vintage fabric-inspired version of this quilt (above). I used reproduction vintage fabrics on a solid white background. It was a lot of fun to make and this is still one of my favorite quilts!

See a video about the original PPV!

01-january-block-2

Today’s pattern, Block 1, is The King’s Crows. You can find it beginning on page 4 in Paper Piecing Vintage, or you can purchase JUST this block pattern here.

All patterns for PPV are 6″ & 12″ (w/o seam allowance). The size you make is up to you.

Since I’d done a vintage version, this year I wanted to do something a little different…

My 2017 PPV quilt will be Halloween themed!

I’m more than a little excited about this! I’ve been collecting Halloween bits and pieces for years and had planned to start a Halloween quilt in 2016. To make a very long story short, I had surgery last year and it pushed the Halloween quilt right off the To Do list. I already knew I wanted to revisit PPV this year (lots of you have asked for it!), so it only made sense to combine the two projects and create a fun, whimsical version for my Halloween-loving self!

This is my color guide, created in EQ (subject to change as I quilt along!). If you’d like to do a little planning, too, there is a coloring page included in the complete pattern on page 64.

TTMT #402 – Snow

In a slight departure from my normal show and tell, my daughter and I share our snow-filled walk during our family holiday.

Some bad counting on my part had this quilt along originally scheduled through May. We’ll actually be finishing up in June. Thanks to my ever vigilant friend & pattern tester Amber for the correction!

TTMT #399- Fancy Pants!

Three Hundred Ninety-Nine Talk to Me Tuesday Videos. WOW!!

In the beginning, this weekly crafty show & tell didn’t even have a name! A couple of weeks in, one of our early participants suggested TTMT and it stuck. At the time, Tuesday was my day off and it was the best day for me to share with my lovely craft, quilt, & swap friends around the world, so Talk to Me Tuesday was born!

Want to join our community? Our crafty show & tell happens every week at ttmt.livejournal.com. (I post my videos both places.) You’ll need to join the TTMT community to participate, but membership is free and weekly participation is always optional. Videos can be uploaded directly to YouTube, can be edited or not, but should be 10 minutes or less of crafty show & tell goodness! We have some fun things planned for 2017. Crafting is always more fun with friends!

I finished and sandwiched this quilt back in March...my very first quilt, and my first try at #paperpiecing as well. It received it's first quilting stitches today. This is the back side. Some might say #afterallthistime and I'll simply say #ALWAYS! #HP

My Favorite Things – December

my-favorite-things-quilt-2016

Welcome to Sewhooked for the final installment of My Favorite Things, my 2016 Block of the Month. I’ve loved sharing this quilt with you and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for joining in!

My Favorite Things includes 12 original patterns to paper piece in both 6″ and 12″, as well as a FOUR BONUS BLOCKS to mix and match your own favorites. You’ll find the finishing instructions below this month’s pattern.

In case you missed it, I talked about My Favorite Things in this week’s Talk to Me Tuesday. My finished quilt (above) was professionally quilted by Sarah’s Sewing Studio.

♥ ♥ ♥ GET THE DECEMBER PATTERN ♥ ♥ ♥

Deciding what the final patterns were to be was no easy feat! I have a list of a dozen or more things that I kicked around that are also tools and fun crafty things I love. Finally, I decided on Paint, with a bonus Paintbrush pattern.

While I don’t often use paint on a canvas, I do use paint for stencils, the occasional mural, and other fun crafts. I have a whole shelf of paints ready and waiting whenever the need hits!

#throwbackthursday - the inspiration for the first #projectofdoom #harrypotter #quilt is this mural I painted in my daughter's room when she was 8 years old. She's 21 now. You can find my #pod2015 and #pod2011 patterns for free on sewhooked.com and fando

The mural above was painted for my daughter way back in 2003 or so. It also happens to the inspiration for The Project of Doom, my Harry Potter-inspired bookcase quilt!
