2017 quilt along.jpg

Welcome back to our Paper Piecing Vintage Quilt Along (#PPV2017)!

JUST ONE MORE BLOCK AND WE ARE DONE! It’s been an amazing time so far and I’m thrilled that you have been quilting along with me!

Find Quilty Fun & Prizes in the Sewhooked Facebook Group

As our second round of PPV nears completion, I’ve been hard at work on the next Sewhooked Quilt Along and my very first entirely free Sewhooked QAL brought to you thanks to our Patreon Patrons!

rainbow cascade badge.jpg

I’m very proud to announce Rainbow Cascade, A FREE Quilt Along for a brand new quilt pattern designed by yours truly to take place September 2017 – April 2018!

Rainbow Cascade is unlike any quilt I’ve designed or any quilt along I’ve hosted. It’s a single pattern quilt that is all about COLOR!

The quilt along will include 5 quilt sizes so you can make your version as big or small as you like. We’ll be piecing our blocks in a cascade so you can watch your own quilt grow from the corner out.

I will keep the Second & Fourth Monday schedule we’ve had for PPV, so even if you’re making the biggest quilt (70″ x 80″), you will never need to piece more than 4 blocks in a two week period.

I myself will be using Rainbow Cascadas a stash busting project. I’ll release fabric amounts in August so you can pull (or purchase!) fabric for your own version of Rainbow Cascade!!

I very much hope you’ll play along for fun and rainbow-themed piecing!

As during PPV, you will find Quilty Fun & Prizes in the Sewhooked Facebook Group.

And now, back to our regularly scheduled program, Paper Piecing Vintage!

Today’s pattern, Block 11 (November 2014), is Vestibule. You can find it beginning on page 53 in Paper Piecing Vintage, or you can purchase JUST this block pattern here.

All patterns for PPV are 6″ & 12″ (w/o seam allowance). The size you make is up to you.

The vintage version (above) is from my 2014 PPV.

My 2017 PPV Halloween Quilt Block

Block 11 - Vestibule

The Vestibule block is another really fun one to use with tiny prints! I had a single square of this purple eyeball fabric and I used every smidgen of it! The white with tiny sprinkles was a 2″ strip of fabric left from another project. I do love how they go together!

The next PPV post will reveal my final Halloween block and my entire PPV Halloween Quilt! It’s almost pieced and I’ve been loving every minute of it!

2017 quilt along.jpg

Welcome back to our Paper Piecing Vintage Quilt Along (#PPV2017)!

We’re nearing the end of our event…just one more month to go!

On June 12, the date of our next block post, I’ll be announcing the next Sewhooked Quilt Along with a brand new purpose-designed pattern. We begin in September!

signature block

Are you quilting along with Paper Piecing Vintage? Share a Signature Block for the PPV Signature Quilt! This special project is a for a commemorative signature quilt that I will keep after Paper Piecing Vintage has concluded. Find this block on page 21 of Paper Piecing Vintage. If you’re only making a few blocks, you can also find the Signature Block Pattern right here.

A reminder of how this Quilt Along works:

PPV was my 2014 Block of the Month. This project was inspired by old-fashioned, hand-pieced quilt blocks. Because I LOVE paper piecing, I couldn’t help but create my own versions of traditional patterns I love using my favorite technique.

Quilting along with us is easy! The Paper Piecing Vintage quilt pattern already exists, so you don’t have to anxiously await each pattern to be released.

We’re making this quilt together, one block at a time, as a group. We’ll be making two blocks a month. I’ll prompt you on the second and fourth Monday to remind you which block to work on next. With a little work and a little luck, we’ll have a finished quilt top by the end of June!

Get the completed quilt pattern (more info below) from CRAFTSY or ETSY for $10. If you already own this pattern, you are ready to go!

A Note from Jennifer:

Individual blocks now available by popular demand: If you want to make just one or two blocks from the set, I am releasing these patterns individually as we go. (Link to purchase Block 9 below.)

Block 10 - Round the Log Cabin

I’ve been saving this tiny candy print especially for Round the Log Cabin. All I can say bout this one is YUM, YUM, YUM! It’s hard to choose a favorite block, but I really do love this one!

Here are all of my Halloween PPV blocks so far:

They’ve turned out even more fun than I could have imagined!

This is my color inspiration, created in EQ (subject to change as I quilt along!).

Since I’m using a lot of Halloween scraps, I’m also cutting the piano keys as I go from the leftover fabrics from each block. It will be a huge time saver at the end!

If you’d like to do a little planning, too, there is a coloring page included in the complete pattern on page 64.

Paper Piecing Vintage Correction

for-me

Hello, friends! I have updated a minor sizing error in Paper Piecing Vintage. The August bonus block, Spin with Me, was slightly off scale and printed a little bit too big. I have also added a 12″ version of the same pattern for anyone that would like to use it as a substitute. No other patterns were changed.

If you purchased your pattern from Craftsy, you should receive a pattern update notification within the next day or two that a new download is available. If you purchased from Etsy, you can redownload the file under the drop-down menu on the right that says You – Purchases/Reviews.

If you won a free copy of the pattern, please forward the winning email to sewhooked@gmail.com and I’ll be happy to send you an update.

I am very sorry if this caused you any inconvenience.

My 2017 PPV Halloween Quilt Block

Block 06 - Sweet Basket

What can I say? The block is called Sweet Basket and this fun fabric made me think of a Trick-or-Treat bag. It was a simple choice to make!

Making the 12″ block? Precut 3″ squares and then cut those in half on the diagonal for easy piecing of the triangles. You can make them a bit smaller, but I like a little wiggle room.

This is my color inspiration, created in EQ (subject to change as I quilt along!).

Welcome back to our Paper Piecing Vintage Quilt Along (#PPV2017)!

A little explanation::

Get the completed quilt pattern (more info below) from CRAFTSY or ETSY for $10 (previously $12). If you already own this pattern, you are ready to go!

You’ve asked, and it’s happening…if you want to make just one or two blocks from the set, I am releasing these patterns individually as we go. (Link to purchase Block 3 below.)

The following is the March 2014 block (Block 3 for us) made for my 1930’s vintage fabric-inspired version of this quilt (above).

Today’s pattern, Block 3 (March 2014), is Ice Cream Bowl. You can find it beginning on page 10 in Paper Piecing Vintage, or you can purchase JUST this block pattern here.

We also have a bonus block this week, which is a larger scale version of the same Ice Cream Bowl (see my Halloween block!).

All patterns for PPV are 6″ & 12″ (w/o seam allowance). The size you make is up to you.

The vintage version (above) is from my 2014 PPV.

My 2017 PPV Halloween Quilt Block

Since I wanted to be able to see the toads in the Halloween fabric I was using, I opted for the 6″ bonus block pattern on page 15 enlarged to 12″ using Adobe Reader. The bonus block is also included here for those of you that just want this one pattern. I was working with a scrap of fabric and was just a tiny bit short, so I supplemented with a similar tonal purple for the last round. I’m quite pleased with the result!
