One Little Turtle

I love turtles. There is just something about the way they look and move. They have always seemed serious and dignified to me.

I have a turtle niece named Frankie (above, sister to the famous Lily), and I myself have a small collection that includes hand-carved turtles, glass turtles, crochet ones, fabric ones and even some turtle jewelry. There’s even a possibility (a big one!) that I have a fair amount of turtle fabric in my stash!

One Little Turtle is an updated version of my original Turtle Pattern, still available on the Free Quilt Pattern page.

This is a turtle I made several years ago from of a vintage toy pattern. He’s made entirely out of scrap fabrics. I call him Turkle!

How about a fun layout using One Little Turtle that I whipped up using EQ7 . Isn’t it fun?

Ready To Play!

Just to clear the air, this is not the big secret. That’s coming soon…but not today!

Since I first shared All Dolled Up back in January, Ready to Play! has been on my mind.

If I was going to make little girl dresses, obviously I needed some boy clothes, too!

It’s awfully quiet in here…

You might have noticed in yesterday’s Talk To Me Tuesday that I didn’t actually show anything that I’m working on.

Ehem.

There’s a mighty fine reason for that. I’ve been working on something I can’t show off just yet. In fact, I will need the all-clear from someone else before I share it.

Is that vague enough for you?

I can hardly believe it’s been almost two months since I shared photos from the Sewhooked Flickr Group.

Removing the Paper

Recently, I’ve been asked several times how I remove paper from my blocks. Back in January 2008, I made a video to show just that. This was pre-TTMT, which seems like an age ago.

This is the way I do it…if you have a different technique, I’d love to hear about it.

To celebrate this fun and awesome happening, I’ve done a couple of things…

First, I’ve created new layouts and color schemes to inspire you, as well as updating the Floating Mariner pattern.

Not into blue & lavender? Try a different color!

The Floating Mariner table runner is made with four Floating Mariner blocks plus 4 extra 3″ units used as corner stones.

Try mixing Floating Mariner with a traditional block and see what happens!

This one makes me think of fireworks! Red, White & Blue Floating Mariner made with 16 blocks plus 4 3″ units as cornerstones.

I think this is my favorite of all the layouts I played with. Alternate Floating Mariner colorings combined.

This one is totally different, putting Floating Mariner on point and leaving out the small corner pieces. Fun!

These layouts were created using Electric Quilt 7.

Floating Mariner is my original design.

TTMT #148 – Loads to Talk About

On Craftsy and Revisiting an Old Favorite

My Kitchen Window, now available through Craftsy!

I’ve spent quite a bit of time the last couple of days enjoy the creative bounty that is Craftsy! After lurking for months, I finally dived in and joined up.

And what a wonderful world it is!

I am in the process of making all of my shop patterns, as well as select free patterns, available as PDF instant download through my spiffy new Craftsy shop. Crafts makes for safe, simple shopping from a variety of independence artisans.

While adding patterns to Craftsy, I have been revisiting many old friends.

My Kitchen Window is one of my oldest paper pieced designs, and it was the first pattern I re-drafted when I started working on patterns to sell.

The original was designed many years ago for my mother-in-law, Carol, based on a piece of stained glass she made for us when we first moved to Austin.

The original piece was early days in my designing career. The revamped pattern is much, much simpler and easier to piece!

The inspiration.

While posting this pattern today, I realized the pattern could use a few updates. Since the original pattern was designed entirely in Photoshop, I decided to play with it in EQ7 and see what I could do with different fabrics.

The first one uses the same color scheme as the actual quilt and stained glass.

How fun is it in blue and yellow? I might have to make this one!

I already want to call this one clown kitchen, because, WOW, those are some wild colors together. Fun, but wild!
