The Ugly Quilt, a quilting experiment gone wrong. I just could not make myself like this. I tried. Eventually, I just gave up and stitched the blocks together. Several people told me it was very striking. The two redeeming qualities of this quilt – it lay perfectly flat for quilting and it squared up exactly. I’m sure someone will love it, I was just very tired of looking at it.

Blue Granny – I love this ‘ghan. It is made of leftovers from Blue Bricks and the last couple of skeins of blue yarn in my stash.

Also? Picot edges make me happy.

Fabric Friday

One of the weaknesses I’ve acquired over the last couple of years is for vintage flour sacking. Part of the reason for this new found love has a lot to do with inheriting quilt tops and blocks from my grandmother. Grannie’s 9-Patch is a work-in-progress, currently on my machine being quilted. Grannie’s Trunk Quilt was finished earlier this year and returned to my mom, who now lives with my dad in her mother’s, my grandmother’s, house.

I’ve been acquiring more flour sacking in bits and pieces and I think I will eventually create a sampler quilt using these fabrics. It’s something I’ve had on my mind to do for quite some time and I can’t think of a more appropriate fabric choice!

My Friends Make Stuff 2010

You may remember Handmade For The Holidays 2009, where I talked about my crafty friends that make and sell handmade awesomeness.

I started posting this list originally on Livejournal back in 2007 and each year I collect names from personal friends who are crafty and awesome, making all kinds of great things to sell. This year, I’m including an author friend because he is a very talented artist and self-published, which is, of course, awesome!

I personally own stuff made by everyone on this list. It’s ALL amazing, and made with skill and love, and in the case of the books, beautifully illustrated and a joy to read.

Also, I will happily continue to add the names of my friends to this list until the end of 2010, so if you should be on here and aren’t, just drop me an email!

Fabric Friday – The Treasure Chest

When I first started paper piecing and had very little stash, an amazing woman named Clare gave me a huge box of scrap fabrics. They were the kind of things many quilters would throw away as being too small to be useful.

It was a real gift to me.

A great deal of my first Harry Potter quilt was made out of fabrics from Clare’s generosity…

The long and the short of this Fabric Friday? Never underestimate the gift of scraps! I share them whenever I can, and gladly accept them from friends that would like to clean theirs out. And, of course, I always have my Treasure Chest to dive into whenever I need a tiny piece of just the right fabric!

TTMT #86 – Tolkien To Me Tuesday

I am embarrassed at how neglectful I’ve been of my poor, dusty crafty blog! Can it really be a whole week since I posted here? What possible reason, you ask, could I have for such blatant neglect of my online crafty home?

At the end of October, in a moment of insanity, I signed up for NaNoWriMo.

Yeah, I know, because I don’t have enough to do, right?

The awesome and amazing thing is, I did it! I wrote a 50,000+ word novel in a month, about 1/3 of which was written just this past weekend. So, I procrastinated… a little. It’s done now and I’m proud of my work!

Today’s video is dedicated to Deb, who sent me the best early Christmas gift I could have possibly dreamed of! You’re right Deb, there really is magic in surprises.
