Free Pattern Friday – Chocolate Box

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

As promised, we’re back to quilt patterns this week!

Today’s freebie, Chocolate Box, is a larger, simplified version of a traditional Garden Lattice block. It includes instructions for both a traditionally pieced 14″ finished block and a 6″ paper pieced pattern that can be enlarged if desired.

I’ve included everything you need to use directional fabrics for fussy cutting. I’ve made two quilts using this pattern so far and both were fussy cut to feature fun fabrics!

First #finish of 2016! I started to make my #ufo2016 list yesterday and couldn't bear to have this one on there once again. Beautiful Australia themed fabrics were a gift from my friend Cat. I paired them with #benartex Fossil Fern and used my Chocolate B

I created this 70″ x 84″ version for myself using fabrics from Australia that the lovely Cat Magraith gifted me over several years. I added Fossil Fern to create a lovely, snuggly quilt. The instructions to make this colorway are included.

Quilt for Tara (Chocolate Box)

This little quilt gave chocolate box its name. It was gifted to my friend Cat’s daughter.

Free Pattern Friday – Coconut Candy Crochet Baby Blanket

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Today is the final freebie for the month of May designed especially for The Linus Connection.

In the distant, far, far away time of 2005, my website was called Jen’s Crochet & Crafts. There were at that time, way more crochet than crafts, and the very beginning of my quilting adventures!

Coconut Candy was posted to that long ago web site and has been along for the ride ever since. I’ve made several for The Linus Connection over the years, some multicolored, some not.

Working on today’s post led me to revisit my Ravelry page, something I haven’t done in a long, long time. I spent a little time there updating links and making sure all the patterns actually went somewhere. It seems a long time ago that I was almost exclusively designing crochet projects!

I hope you’ll enjoy today’s yummy pattern. ♥

PPV 2017 – Block 10

2017 quilt along.jpg

Welcome back to our Paper Piecing Vintage Quilt Along (#PPV2017)!

We’re nearing the end of our event…just one more month to go!

On June 12, the date of our next block post, I’ll be announcing the next Sewhooked Quilt Along with a brand new purpose-designed pattern. We begin in September!

Are you quilting along with Paper Piecing Vintage? Share a Signature Block for the PPV Signature Quilt! This special project is a for a commemorative signature quilt that I will keep after Paper Piecing Vintage has concluded. Find this block on page 21 of Paper Piecing Vintage. If you’re only making a few blocks, you can also find the Signature Block Pattern right here.

A reminder of how this Quilt Along works:

PPV was my 2014 Block of the Month. This project was inspired by old-fashioned, hand-pieced quilt blocks. Because I LOVE paper piecing, I couldn’t help but create my own versions of traditional patterns I love using my favorite technique.

Quilting along with us is easy! The Paper Piecing Vintage quilt pattern already exists, so you don’t have to anxiously await each pattern to be released.

We’re making this quilt together, one block at a time, as a group. We’ll be making two blocks a month. I’ll prompt you on the second and fourth Monday to remind you which block to work on next. With a little work and a little luck, we’ll have a finished quilt top by the end of June!

Get the completed quilt pattern (more info below) from CRAFTSY or ETSY for $10. If you already own this pattern, you are ready to go!

A Note from Jennifer:

Individual blocks now available by popular demand: If you want to make just one or two blocks from the set, I am releasing these patterns individually as we go. (Link to purchase Block 9 below.)

Today’s pattern, Block 10 (October 2014), is Round the Log Cabin. You can find it beginning on page 48 in Paper Piecing Vintage, or you can purchase JUST this block pattern here.

All patterns for PPV are 6″ & 12″ (w/o seam allowance). The size you make is up to you.

Block 10 - Round the Log Cabin

I’ve been saving this tiny candy print especially for Round the Log Cabin. All I can say bout this one is YUM, YUM, YUM! It’s hard to choose a favorite block, but I really do love this one!

Here are all of my Halloween PPV blocks so far:

They’ve turned out even more fun than I could have imagined!

This is my color inspiration, created in EQ (subject to change as I quilt along!).

Since I’m using a lot of Halloween scraps, I’m also cutting the piano keys as I go from the leftover fabrics from each block. It will be a huge time saver at the end!

Free Pattern Friday – Stars For Linus

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

In keeping with our May theme, today’s pattern was created especially to make quilts for The Linus Connection.

Stars For Linus - Update

Stars for Linus is a personal project I created in 2011 during a wildfire crisis here in Central Texas. We were in great need of extra blankets to help the affected children, many of whom were made homeless.  I put a call out to my online quilting friends to make this simple paper pieced star with sashing.

We were able to create several quilts made from blocks that had been sent from all over the world!

Stars For Linus

I’ve continued to collect Stars For Linus ever since, expanding the project to accept ANY 12″ star block contributors might like to make. Find out more here.

All quilts made from these blocks are finished by myself or another Linus volunteer and goes to a child in crisis in Central Texas.

Below are just a few of the quilts made from your donated 12″ Star blocks over the years. As the years have gone by, I’ve incorporated more star variety and occasionally even a random orphan block!

All finished quilts were donated through The Linus Connection to children who needed them.

Free Pattern Friday – Strawberry Ice Cream Baby Blanket

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Last week, I mentioned I would be sharing patterns created for my favorite blanket-making charity, The Linus Connection, during the month of May.

Take a deep breath and prepare yourself. Today’s free pattern is crochet!

Whaaaat?!

That’s right, in a former life, I spent quite a lot of time working up my own crochet patterns. That’s where the “hooked” in Sewhooked comes from!

This pattern is a little extra special because it has gone on to have a life as a Knit Picks pattern. Quite an honor!

Happy Star Wars Day!

#doublebuns and my #spacetavern tee. Happy #starwarsday! #maythe4th #maytheforcebewithyou

Hello, friends!

One of my first fandom loves was Star Wars, so of course, I must celebrate May the Fourth, aka, Star Wars Day!

When I was little and Star Wars was entirely new, I’d play Millenium Falcon with my cousins and fight for the right to be Han Solo. I’ve seen the movies an uncountable amount of times since then.

I’ve seen the movies an uncountable amount of times since then. I was lucky enough to have kids that loved it and they played Star Wars, too!

Free Pattern Friday – Crazy Cakes!

free-pattern-friday

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Today is my birthday!

*throws confetti*

I recently spent a whole lot of time cleaning up the hard drive on my computer. During this adventure in bytes, I found tons of unfinished patterns, sketches, doodles, and whatnot, all of which I’d never shared.

At some point it the distant past, I sat and doodled a slew of cupcakes with personality for hand embroidery. Why? Not a clue, but when I rediscovered these designs, it occurred to me that nothing could be more perfect for my birthday post!

I hope you enjoy these personality-filled cupcakes to hand embroider. Happy birthday to me!

Pro-Tip: I use Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy for all of my hand embroidery projects. Print designs on this water soluble fabric using your printer, stick it on your fabric and stitch! It rinses away cleanly when you’re done. Easy, peasy perfect transfer every time. This isn’t a paid endorsement, but the above is an affiliate link. I really do use this stuff all the time! 😉 Check your local quilt store or order online.

Welcome back to Free Pattern Friday!

Today, I’m sharing a new to you pattern, never before posted by me anywhere online.

Icy Goodness is a pattern to paper piece and includes both 6″ and 10″ patterns. This design was requested by a publisher some time ago but was ultimately not used for the publication and has been sitting in my “unused” folder ever since.

“Unused” is a much better choice of words than “rejected,” now isn’t it?

I hope it brings a smile to your face. 🙂
