Two Little Hooters Halloween

These fabulous Halloween Hooters were posted on Flickr by the very first person to purchase Two Little Hooters, clumsy_chord. She says the entire color scheme was inspired by the gorgeous striped binding and her plan is to find a tree branch to display it on. Love that!

You can read more about clumsy_chord’s Two Little Hooters here.

Follow-Up Friday

Old Sully

I’m legal! I thought a photo to follow-up this blog post and this blog post was in order.

Doesn’t the plate cover look great on my new ride?

Sewhooked Postcard - front

I have Sewhooked postcards on the way from a printer that are mini-portfolios of my work (this image is the front!) . These are for sharing with quilt stores in order to introduce them to my work and (hopefully!) get them interested in carrying my patterns.

This is something I’m very excited about!

If you’d like to see my patterns in your favorite store, email me with Sewhooked Postcard in the subject line with your name, mailing address and the quilt store name, and I will send you a postcard to give to your favorite store.

Everyone that requests a postcard will get a little surprise, too. Because, you know, I just can’t help it.

Just a note: I am currently only selling hard copy patterns within the U.S., but I am working on adding International sales. PDF patterns are available to all countries.

Aces High

Aces High
Aces High is my fresh-off-the sewing machine pattern, available in PDF or hard copy.

I love this design. Seriously, love it. The idea came from my very best friends, Jewells. I drafted the whole thing during an email conversation we had, while we went back and forth making her idea a reality.

It’s now tested, proofread and ready to roll!  This was the most natural-feeling design I’ve worked on in a while for Sewhooked. Natural meaning…it just flowed. It worked. And I love the outcome. I hope you do, too. Don’t you just think this would look great in a game room or be a fantastic gift for a poker player?

Sewhooked: Jumping In With Both Feet

Grandma's House Quilted Potholder Set
Grandma’s House Quilted Potholder Set

It’s been a while since I talked about my business. I post a lot of crafts and patterns and, of course I talk about Harry Potter (no, no…really!?).

Sewhooked is not just the name of my site and business. It’s become a community of crafty people that are near and dear to me. As you probably already know, I design and sell quilt patterns. What you may not know is that I also sell hand crafted items, including custom-made buttons and hard-copies of my patterns on Etsy.  All of my available patterns are ready for instant purchase and PDF download in my shop here on Sewhooked.  For quilt shop owners, my patterns are also available for wholesale purchase. Email me for details.

After a year of working on Sewhooked part time, I’ve decided the time has come to try my hand at running my business full-time. Up until now, I’ve worked on Sewhooked whenever I have time, squeezing in minutes here and there between other things.

At the end of the summer, all that will change. I’m leaving my part-time job at the quilt store where I work and am going to take a session off from teaching to build my inventory and focus on my business. There have been some changes in my life recently which make me feel the time is right to work hard, to work longer and to make Sewhooked everything I want it to be.

What can you look forward to? Well, more patterns, for sure! Creating patterns is my first love, and there are lots of ideas rolling around in my brain, just waiting for their chance to make an appearance. I’m tentatively planning a Block of the Month quilt for my shop next year, which I would love to be guided by those that would like to participate. More on that once the Project of Doom has wrapped up.

There will also be new hand-crafts available through Etsy. After a brief hiatus, Custom 1.5″ Buttons are back, including optional graphic design services. Soon, I’ll be adding grab bags of fabric from my crazy-huge scrap stash, as well as limited edition cards featuring photos of some of my quilts.

Photos in this post include some of the items currently available for sale through Etsy. PDF Downloads are here.

What kind of quilt patterns are you looking for? What handcrafts would you be interested in seeing on Etsy (keeping in mind that I do not sell items made from my Harry Potter and other fandom patterns out of respect to the authors/creators)?

I’d love to hear from you!

Peace, Love, Pi

Peace, Love, Pi

During the craziness that was getting sewhooked.org and blog.sewooked.org consolidated into the Shiny New sewhooked.com, one of my newest designs, Peace, Love, Pi, slipped through the cracks of blog posting.

This spiffy new design was created to entertain my husband and son, both who love math and have great senses of humor. They love the design and once it’s quilted, it will quite possibly end up hanging in my husband’s office where he does magical things with computers all day long.

9 1/2″ X 21 1/2″

Includes 3 original

paper pieced patterns

plus sashing instructions.

One of the best parts about this pattern is it’s construction. It’s super simple, with 5″ (5.5″ unfinished) paper pieced patterns and simple sashing.

Added March 2012 – By popular request, Pi is available as a single pattern for just $2 on Craftsy!

Not into math but love the “Peace, Love” part of the pattern? Replace the bottom block with any 5″ square of your choice and create a statement about what you love!

How about….

Poppies from the Past

poppies title page.jpg

Sometimes, magic just happens and sometimes, I really have to work at it. With Poppies from the Past, I did not have to work at it.

Bee-Treat 2011

At my last quilt retreat, my lovely friend Marylin pulled out several lovely hand-pieced blocks that she’d found at a flea market. Inspired, I took a photo of the block, thinking vaguely that I might like to make a block or two.

Once I was home, I started searching through my books and the web, looking for a pattern for the block. By the time I’d given up, the basic design for Poppies from the Past was already in my head.

My poppy differs from my vintage inspiration in several ways. For one, mine pattern is completely paper pieced, no hand applique or set-in seams! Secondly, I designed the actual flower just a little bit different because I wanted a more upright effect with the petals. Last, my block is much, much smaller; only 7″ compared to the originals approximately 14″ – 15″.

Bonnie Blue Black Background fabric

You may remember that not long ago, I was on the hunt for the lovely background fabric I used in this project. That was the only hard part of this project, running out of fabric and then not being able to find what I needed locally! Fortunately, I have fantastic friends and with their help, I was able to get this project complete.

Poppies from the Past is available for only $8 for instant PDF download with secure PayPal payment from the Sewhooked Shop. You get foundation patterns for the poppies and the flying geese border, as well as fabric requirements, cutting and stitching instructions to create a 14 1/4″ x 29 1/4″ wall hanging.
